  • Patent number: 6216104
Abstract: A Computer-based Patient Record (CPR) system includes user equipment devices which are configured for speech synthesis in response to speech markup language text and which are connected via a network to a middle tier of a server system. The CPR system further includes a message delivery facility for delivery of textual messages to any of pager, electronic mail, or voice mail (after text-to-speech synthesis) message delivery vehicles. The server system accesses a user specific data store containing speech synthesis profiles which include prosodic information of the voices and speech of users, and message delivery profiles which specify which of the aforementioned message delivery vehicles are to be used and in what order.

  • Patent number: 6076166
Abstract: The server includes a layer for dynamically generating web pages and other data objects using scripts, such as graphic, audio and video files, in dependence on stored information indicating the user's needs and preferences, including those presumed from stored information as to the user's function, job, or purpose for being at the hospital, and logged usage profiles, the level of the user's access privileges to confidential patient information, and the computer and physical environments of the user. Notably, the content is generated in dependence on the display resolution and lowest bandwidth link between the server and browser to limit the waiting time for downloads as well as the server load.

  • Patent number: 5347384
Abstract: A fiber optic data distribution system for distributing image data between a data storage system and a plurality of image workstations using embedded control signals and a fiber optic link. The data storage system, a host computer, and a plurality of image workstations are all coupled together by way of a local area network. The host computer includes network software and associated files that provide control information and functions for the distribution system. The host computer controls access to the distribution system by setting up the data storage system and workstations and initiating data transfer to and from the workstations. The data distribution system includes a distribution circuit that comprises a high-speed logical switch that is capable of data transfer rates on the order of 100 megabits per second. The distribution circuit is also an electrical to optical converter which transforms electrical signals stored in the data storage system into optical signals and vice versa.
