Publication number: 20220075378Abstract: Systems and methods for visual inspection of a container such as an oil tank via a lighter-than-air aircraft are presented. According to one aspect, the aircraft includes a gondola attached to a balloon filled with lighter-than-air gas. Rigidly attached to the gondola is a suite of sensors, including a camera sensor, an inertial measurement unit and a range sensor. Navigation of the aircraft is based on information sensed by the suite of sensors and processed by control electronics arranged in the gondola. Embedded in the control electronics is an extended Kalman filter that calculates pose estimates of the aircraft based on the information sensed by the inertial measurement unit and updated by the camera sensor. The extended Kalman filter uses the information sensed by the range sensor to reduce uncertainty in the calculated pose estimate. Images captured by the camera sensor can be used to evaluate state of the container.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2021Publication date: March 10, 2022Inventors: Robert A Hewitt, Jacob Izraelevitz, Donald F Ruffatto, Luis Phillipe C.F. Patent number: 10655389Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed to facilitate a rotary gate controller moving from one state to another in a manner wherein the gate controller uses the state condition to determine if an exit is taking place when an entry request has been sent. Once such an occurrence is determined to exist, the MID will send an exit request allowing the exiting customer to continue through the gate. When the internal state changes to going to a home position, the MID will send a new entry request, and the MID will indicate through MID display that the entering customer can pass through the rotary gate. The original payment of the entering customer will have been accepted and will allow the entering customer to proceed through the gate. On completion of the entry rotation, the rotary gate controller will revert back to free exit and restricted entry states.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2017Date of Patent: May 19, 2020Assignee: CONDUENT BUSINESS SERVICES, LLCInventors: Stephen May, Colin William Robert Hewitt

Patent number: 10193541Abstract: For transformerless switching regulators, a current-mode controlled boost converter operates based on current sensing through a switch to ground, allowing use of common controllers. To avoid reverse current from a cascaded charge pump, the input of the charge pump is blocked by a diode from passing through the switch to ground and is itself separately switched to ground.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2017Date of Patent: January 29, 2019Assignee: Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc.Inventors: Frederick Alan Williams, Robert A. Hewitt, David A. Petersen

Patent number: 9971291Abstract: A media path moves media sheets from a media supply, a print engine receives the media sheets from the media path, and a sensor detects a characteristic related to the media sheets. A drive nip continuously moves the media sheets, and a stall nip receives the media sheets from the drive nip. The stall nip is positioned less than the length of one of the media sheets from the drive nip. The stall nip alternately stops or moves the media sheets while the drive nip continuously moves the media sheets, as controlled by a controller, to cause the media sheets to buckle between the drive nip and the stall nip. The controller controls when to stop or move the media sheets to constantly vary the size of the buckle, and thereby make the buckle relatively larger for a first characteristic and make the buckle relatively smaller for a different characteristic.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2016Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Lakshmi Sujatha Yaramsetti, Veena Kumari Saluja, Colin William Robert Hewitt, Philip James Hambridge, Julius Cardozo, Timothy David Jonathan Spink

Publication number: 20160241736Abstract: Systems and methods for a multifunction device, a control system has a processor in data communication with a memory. A local user interface is connected to the control system. A portable data storage device is connected to a port. The local user interface provides user selection of one of mutually exclusive document delivery workflow operations under control of the control system. The local user interface provides user selection of a source for a document recipient's address according to one of the document delivery workflows. Upon selection of the source for the document recipient's address being the portable data storage device, the processor scans the portable data storage device and displays files containing addresses on the local user interface. The local user interface receives selection of designated recipient's address according to the selected document delivery workflow. The processor saves each the designated recipient's addresses in the memory.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 13, 2015Publication date: August 18, 2016Inventors: Veena Kumari Saluja, David Berke, Philip James Hambridge, Colin William Robert Hewitt, Timothy David Jonathan Spink, Lakshmi Sujatha Yaramsetti

Patent number: 9265482Abstract: A reversible transducer connector allows the connector to be inserted within the receptacle in more than one orientation. The electrical connections between the receptacle and connector are reprogrammed based on the orientation. The connector is inserted in two or more stages, such as using zero-insertion or magnetic retention in a first stage to identify the connector and using an automated engagement to engage remaining channel connections in a second stage for use. Doors for protecting the connector and/or receptacle may be opened and/or closed magnetically.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2013Date of Patent: February 23, 2016Assignee: Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc.Inventors: Robert A. Hewitt, Robert Patrick Hunt, Robert Nolen Phelps

Patent number: 8940207Abstract: A continuous length of material of non-circular cross-section is pelletized to form discrete bits, by feeding the material to a cutting wheel with shaped cutters that form non-planar bits having non-circular axial projections and that are aligned with the material. The material is fed so as to maintain a rotational orientation with respect to the cutters, and so as to avoid buckling. Multiple banks of strands of material are severed simultaneously, thereby producing high volumes of shaped bits that are useful as filling and as filter material, and as friction-enhancing additives.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2011Date of Patent: January 27, 2015Assignee: Velcro Industries B.V.Inventors: Peter J. Mueller, Richard H. Fetter, Robert A. Hewitt, Jamie Allen Chomas, Jason Bradley Forgash
