  • Patent number: 4324085
Abstract: An apparatus for assembling a plurality of containers into packages which includes a drum assembly with a plurality of jaw stations each including stretching fingers and tab devices laterally outside of the stretching fingers for associating with a forming bar at the entry region of the drum, which combination efficiently and reliably deforms the outer band of a continuously fed carrier strip to properly mate with the laterally outer surfaces of the stretching jaws.

  • Patent number: 4301918
Abstract: A strip of thermo-plastic material particularly designed to be longitudinally, permanently stretched, so as to be transformed into a container multi-packaging device having a plurality of can receiving apertures which are configured to include an outer band portion and an inner band portion from a strip with limited amount of material removed in series of narrow transversely arranged slot means. The slot means are particularly designed to produce inner band portions which are generally V-shaped and slightly stretched and outer band portions which are generally parallel to the axis of the strip and highly stretched to longitudinal orientation.

  • Patent number: 4242834
Abstract: A planting system including a support tray, a plurality of interconnected sleeves, and a plurality of transplant frames adapted for insertion within each sleeve. Each assembly is configured so that a plurality of assemblies are nestable and stackable without jamming relative to each other. Each individual part and subassembly is also configured to be nestable in nonjamming relationship with other like parts or subassemblies.

  • Patent number: 4219117
Abstract: A multipackaging device made from resilient plastic material and flat strip stock for producing a plurality of such devices. The strip comprises a pair of rows of bands of laterally aligned container encircling bands, each which define noncircular apertures. The plurality of bands are integrally connected by first web means joining laterally aligned pairs of bands and second web means joining longitudinally adjacent bands in a given row. The laterally innermost section of each band being generally V-shaped with an apex region and pair of legs extending from each apex with the first web means connecting laterally opposed legs of each pair of laterally aligned bands. This construction permits the strip to be stretched laterally by application of forces solely at the outer edge of the strip so each aperture is reconfigured from a noncircular aperture to a substantially circular aperture for application about a container.

  • Patent number: 4216621
Abstract: A planting system in which the basic unit of the system comprises a plurality of individual containers for growing plants to a stage suitable for transplanting and in which the plurality of containers are secured in a flexible carrier sheet. The securement of each of the containers in the carrier sheet is such that the entire basic unit can be handled in a number of shipping, handling, filling, growing, and transplanting operations in a convenient, unique and efficient manner. Various articles of manufacture are contemplated in the system of the invention which aid and render in the unique and efficient use of the system. Those articles of manufacture include shipping and handling cartons, holding trays, filler plates and portable pack arrangements.

  • Patent number: 4205485
Abstract: A tray construction for growing plants in which the construction comprises a one-piece substantially rigid tray frame with a plurality of plant frames mounted in the tray frame to define a plurality of plant growing containers interconnected in a unitary assembly. The tray frame may be conveniently molded from a foamed thermoplastic material and essentially comprises a plurality of substantially rigid tubular members vertically aligned and integrally interconnected in a rectangular array of a plurality of adjacent rows. The open spaces between diagonally opposed tubular members permit air to pass between the upper and lower sides of the tray frame. The plant frames are preferably frictionally held within the tubular members, and each plant frame essentially comprises a base section and a plurality of ribs secured to the base section to upstand therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4109787
Abstract: A multiple container package for consumer direction with filled containers and for return direction with empty containers; the containers, such as cans or bottles, being of the type having a reduced generally cylindrical neck portion with an outward shoulder or bead formation below the neck opening; and including a resilient and deformable plastic carrier sheet positioning the containers in the packaged array by means of bands presenting apertures in the carrier sheet receiving the neck portions and with edges of the bands engaging beneath the shoulder or bead formations, and with tabs projecting laterally outwardly from opposite edges of the carrier sheet adjacent the apertures so that upon association of the neck portions with the band apertures, the tabs and carrier material along these outer edges will assume the curvature of the container neck portions with minimum stretching and tendency toward taking a set during storage and shelf life of the filled containers and with the tabs to deflect sharply downw
