    Abstract: A porous tube suitable for use as a vascular graft prosthesis is disclosed. It is reinforced by external ribs, integral with the tube wall. These ribs are generally transverse to the tube axis and less porous than the wall. Suitable tubing can be made from polymers exhibiting a significant degree of crystallinity, preferably polytetrafluoroethylene. Methods for making these ribbed, porous tubes are also disclosed.

    Abstract: An improved stent for prosthetic tissue heart valves having upright legs which have radiused upper tips which are approximately one-half the width of prior art stent legs is disclosed. These narrow tipped stent legs reduce stress induced in the leaflets by curvature of the leaflets around the tips of the stent legs in the closed position, extending the service life of the valve. Tabs are added to the tips of the stent legs to add structural strength. These tabs can be tapered or straight but their bottom portions must be narrower than the stent leg. The tabs have a plurality of holes in them through which coaptation stitches are passed. The coaptation stitch can be two separate stitches, one in a first plane and one in a second plane at to the first plane, or, in the preferred embodiment, a single figure eight stitch passing through the holes in the tab in a plane coincident with the long axis of the stent leg.

    Abstract: A cannula used in the distention and irrigation of a saphenous vein which is being tested prior to use as a coronary or peripheral bypass graft includes a tapered and beveled tip which allows easy insertion into the vein, and a sloping shoulder just proximal to the tip which provides a convenient site for firmly securing the vein to the cannula with a ligature. The cannula can be utilized in a distention and irrigation apparatus which includes a pressure limiting device having a resilient membrane reservoir which limits static pressure delivered to the vein to a predetermined level. The device is connected between the cannula of the present invention and a syringe filled with irrigation fluid.
