  • Patent number: 6439034
Abstract: An acoustic viscometer and method for determining both the kinematic viscosity and the intrinsic viscosity of a liquid which includes an acoustic wave generator, a transmitting piezoelectric transducer, a receiving piezoelectric transducer, and a phase-shift detector. The transmitting piezoelectric transducer is positioned so as to be in contact with the liquid and is operably connected to the acoustic wave generator. The transmitting piezoelectric transducer propagates a longitudinal wave of known frequency through the liquid. The receiving piezoelectric transducer is spaced apart from the transmitting piezoelectric transducer and detects the longitudinal wave and a corresponding shear wave propagated through the liquid.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 27, 2002
    Assignee: Conagra Grocery Products Company
Inventors: William A. Farone, Robert F. Sacher, Charles Fleck
  • Patent number: 5804439
Abstract: A recombinant RNA virus is provided allowing encapsidation of genetically engineered viral sequences in heterologous, preferably rod-shaped coat, protein capsids. Since icosahedral viruses are limited in the amount of RNA they can carry, and rod-shaped viruses are expansible, this invention allows the size of recombinant virus RNA components to be increased (or decreased). Methods of making and using such recombinant viruses are also provided, specifically with respect to the transfection of plants to bring about genotypic and phenotypic changes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 27, 1996
Date of Patent: September 8, 1998
    Assignee: Mycogen Plant Science, Inc.
Inventors: Paul G. Ahlquist, Roy C. French, Robert F. Sacher

  • Patent number: 4454964
Abstract: An arrangement for adjusting the inward pressure stroke of a reciprocable pump plunger operating in a pump cylinder mounted on a closure cap of a hand-operated pump, includes confronting limit stops on the plunger head and on the closure cap, with one of the stops having stop portions at differing axial distances relative to the plunger, and the other stop having a portion at a fixed axial distance relative to the plunger. The confronting stop portions are individually and selectively engageable with one another for adjusting the pressure stroke of the plunger to thereby vary the output.
