  • Patent number: 5303685
Abstract: A homogenizing fuel delivery system is provided for drawing fuel substantially equally from each layer of fuel in a vehicle fuel tank, and delivering this fuel to the vehicle's engine. In this manner, the composition of the fuel delivered to the engine approximates the average composition of fuel in the fuel tank.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 23, 1992
Date of Patent: April 19, 1994
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
    Inventor: Robert L. Forgacs
  • Patent number: 5201221
Abstract: A hot-wire mass air flow sensor includes integral, elongated silicon members with a silicon dioxide coating on which temperature sensitive resistors are deposited. The air flow sensor has an extremely low thermal conductivity material base on which is mounted one or more of the elongate silicon members. This structure maximizes the thermal impedance of the conductive path existing at the ends of the flow sensor resistors and minimizes sensor errors. A method for fabricating the air flow sensor is also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 15, 1991
Date of Patent: April 13, 1993
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Robert L. Forgacs, John L. Bomback, Shaun L. McCarthy
  • Patent number: 5187464
Abstract: A potentiometric position transducer comprises a resistive track movably mounted within a housing. A portion of the resistive track is between two fixed electrical contact points. A third electrical contact is moveable over such portion, corresponding to the position or setting of an exterior device, such as the throttle of an internal combustion engine. Drive means are provided to move the resistive track, to repeatedly substitute new portions of the resistive track between the two fixed contact points. Wear is spread over the entire resistive track.

Date of Patent: February 16, 1993
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
    Inventor: Robert L. Forgacs
  • Patent number: 5172655
Abstract: A fuel specifying apparatus is provided for allowing a person adding fuel to the fuel tank of a vehicle to specify to the vehicle's engine control computer the composition of the fuel being added. The engine control computer uses this information to calculate the average fuel composition in the fuel tank following refueling. In addition, means for reminding the refueling person to specify to the engine control computer the composition of the fuel to be added before adding the fuel to the fuel tank are also provided.
