  • Patent number: 9225782
Abstract: A method includes joining a vehicular access network (VAN) comprising cooperative communication between a plurality of on-board units (OBU) in respective vehicles, scanning the VAN to pick up a coverage of at least one infrastructure access point (IAP), which operates on a control channel in a radio access tree (RAT) comprising a plurality of cells, listening to a channel allocation information from the IAP that includes a request for a mobile cell gateway (MCG) at a nominal location in the RAT, and sending a candidacy message to the at least one IAP to become an MCG. Certain embodiments include establishing the VAN in a highway, and in urban areas, aggregating traffic in a cell and transmitting to the IAP via the MCG, and other features.

  • Patent number: 8903593
Abstract: A method in one example embodiment includes receiving a set of data in real time from a plurality of machine devices associated with at least one vehicle, providing a set of reference data corresponding to a machine device of the plurality of machine devices, comparing the set of data with the set of reference data, and detecting a deviation within the set of data from the set of reference data. The method further includes initiating an operation associated with the deviation. The set of reference data could be a trend of previous data received from the machine device or a common trend based on a previous set of data of the machine device. More specific embodiments include receiving a plurality of data containing the set of data from the plurality of machine devices and identifying a state of the machine device using the set of data.

  • Publication number: 20060104297
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for setting up an IP session from a first node, across a network that uses direct virtual path routing, to a second node. The first node receives a request to set up the session. The second node is identified as the destination of the session, based on the request. A first stack of labels is obtained that defines a first path. A second stack of labels is obtained that defines a second path. A first label identifier is selected that identifies the session in a first direction. A second label identifier is selected that identifies the session in a second direction. Finally the data is transmitted from the first node to the second node and from the second node to the first node using the first stack and second stack of labels and label identifiers, respectively.

  • Patent number: 7043467
Abstract: For routing packets by rules in a packet network, a system and method in a routing device for selecting rules to apply to packets having each N fields in a header, considers rules as entities in N-dimensional space, projects the rules onto N-axes in the space, marks the beginning and ending of each projection as breakpoints, numbers intervals between breakpoints in sequential binary numbers, associates a subset of the set of rules as applicable to each interval between breakpoints on each axis, then considers a packet as a point in the N-dimensional space according to its header field values, locates the binary numbered interval into which the point projects on each axis by performing a search on each axis for the numbered interval into which the point projects on that axis, thereby determining the subset of rules applying to the packet for that axis, and determines the second set of matching rules from the subsets of rules by selecting those rules as matching the packet that apply to the packet on at least o

  • Patent number: 5596576
Abstract: A method for allocating access to a shared limited resource among a plurality of users who require access to the resource, the allocation being made such that each user is granted access to the resource at a minimum guaranteed rate associated with each user and such that the resource is available for use by any user exceeding its minimum guaranteed rate only if the resource is available, the method comprising the steps of: assigning tokens to each user at a rate determined by the minimum guaranteed rate associated with each user; storing tokens assigned to each user in a bank associated with each user, each bank having a finite capacity associated with each user; storing tokens assigned to a user whose associated bank has reached its capacity in a bank assigned to another user whose bank is below its capacity; and allowing a user requesting access to the resource to have access to the resource if the user has a predetermined number of tokens in its associated bank and otherwise denying access to the resource.

  • Patent number: 5291550
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of distributing calls among a plurality of destinations of a customer. The calls are distributed according to a customer specified policy to maximize revenue or profit, to minimize waiting time or to minimize probability of abandonment. Different types of calls, such as orders, repair requests, and general information requests can be distributed differently. For example, if the criterion is maximizing profit, then calls of the most profitable type may be given preference for completion, while, during a busy period, some of the less profitable calls are rejected.

  • Patent number: 5274644
Abstract: A fair and efficient admission scheme enables sharing of a common resource among N traffic classes, such that each class is guaranteed (on a suitable long-term basis) a contracted minimum use of the resource, and each class can go beyond the contract when extra resource capacity becomes temporarily available. The scheme operates in an open loop mode, and thus does not require information describing the current status of the resource. For the purposes of description, one form of the invention is best described in terms of "tokens" and "token banks" with finite sizes. Our scheme uses one token bank per class (bank `i`, i= 1, . . . ,N), plus one spare bank. Class `i` is preassigned a rate, rate(i), i=1, . . . ,N, that represents the "guaranteed throughput" or contracted admission rate for class `i`. Tokens are sent to bank `i` at rate(i). Tokens that find a full bank are sent to the spare bank. When the spare bank is also full, the token is lost. Every admitted arrival consumes a token.
