    Abstract: A printer having an imaging drum rotatable around its longitudinal axis, receives a pattern of ink corresponding to an image to be printed. A transfix roller rotates around its longitudinal axis, and is selectively held against the imaging drum by a transfix force, the interface of the imaging drum and the transfix roll forms a transfix nip. An image is formed on the substrate passed through the transfix nip by the marking ink on the imaging drum. A motor drives the imaging drum through a power train with a speed and direction controlled by a motor drive unit. A substrate sensor detects the substrate at the transfix nip, and outputs a signal to the motor drive. The motor drive varies the torque applied to the imaging drum in response to the signal, to maintain a constant rotational speed of the imaging drum.

In a duplex print process, the first roller also reduces a temperature of the media web and an ink image printed in the first side print operation to within a first predetermined temperature range. A second roller modulates the temperature of the media web and ink ejected onto the media web immediately before the web enters the leveling and spreading system to within a second predetermined temperature range to enable uniformity of the ink and web temperatures for spreading the ink in a nip formed with a third roller.

    Abstract: A system and method for adjusting the registration of an image applied to recording media in a printer. The timing of the ejection of ink from an inkjet printhead of the printer is adjusted to maintain proper registration of a first side image to a second side image for duplex printing and y registration within a second side image printing from a first color print unit, such as magenta, to a last print unit, such as black. The location of a leading edge of the first side image deposited on a continuous web of recording media is identified and the timing of ink ejection from printhead nozzles is adjusted to align the second side image to the first side image. Adjustment of the timing of ink ejection reduces or eliminates observable registration errors.

    Abstract: A system that avoids any stopping or reversing of the web direction in a continuous feed printer, instead maintaining consistent process speed, only requiring a slowing and speeding up of the web to cycle through the PR belt seam. This is done by forming a web loop and then immediately flattening the loop after passage of the seam through the transfer zone that includes two transfer BTR rolls with alternating transfer operations, but simultaneous transfer for short periods. Two vacuum assist rolls, one located between the two bias transfer rolls controls the formation of the web loop. A pair of nip forming rolls upstream of the first transfer station and a second vacuum assist roll downstream of the second transfer station control the size of the loop.

Also, a support roller and a compensation roller contact the web of print media. The support roller is positioned between the compensation roller and the nip. A physical link is connected to the support roller and the compensation roller. Each delivery reservoir includes a conduit having an orifice that enables the pressure within a delivery reservoir to exit the reservoir before the ink delivery reservoir is fluidly connected to the low pressure source of ink for refilling of the delivery reservoir. By dropping the high pressure reservoir to atmosphere and then switching the seal actuators for the two reservoirs, the spray of ink is avoided.
