  • Patent number: 7137632
Abstract: A force limiting workpiece holding device for holding a workpiece in a workpiece processing assembly having a spindle and a closer that applies a force, comprises a workpiece holder slidably mounted to the spindle. The workpiece holder includes a plurality of circumferentially-spaced gripping segments that are movable between expanded and contracted positions to grip and release a workpiece. A force limiting coupling structure includes a biasing structure having a spring force. The coupling structure is operatively mountable between the workpiece holder and the closer such that a force applied by the closer to move the gripping segments of the workpiece holder between the expanded and contracted positions is transferred to the workpiece holder through the coupling structure and the biasing structure thereof, whereby a resultant force being applied to the workpiece holder by the closer is limited to the spring force of the biasing structure.

  • Patent number: 5397135
Abstract: An expanding collet assembly comprises an arbor having a flange portion for securing to a machine tool spindle and a shaft portion extending from the flange portion. The shaft portion includes a first conical surface disposed at its free end and a second conical surface disposed adjacent the flange portion. Conical surfaces are parallel to each other and disposed radially inwardly in the direction away from the flange portion. An expanding collet having alternately disposed slots to form a plurality of fingers extend inwardly from opposite collet ends and have inner conical surfaces at the collet ends that cooperate with the first and second conical surfaces. The expanding collet is axially slidably disposed around the shaft portion between a relaxed position when the collet is disposed away from the flange portion and an expanded position when disposed toward the flange portion.

  • Patent number: 5112074
Abstract: An improved tow bar assembly and attaching system for use of heavy vehicles eighing in excess of 50 tons. The invention reduces shock to the two bar assembly though a hook and loop attaching means between the tow bar and the towed vehicle. Reinforcing composite windings about the midpoint of the tow bar reduce the overall weight of the tow bar while increasing strength and rigidity in critical areas.

  • Patent number: 5056993
Abstract: A rotary vane hydraulic motor wherein pressurized liquids are admitted to the working chambers through intake passages oriented tangentially to the rotor peripheral surface. Each intake passage has two flat parallel side surfaces spaced apart approximately the transverse width of the working chamber, such that the liquid readily fills the chamber width dimension as it enters the chamber, without excessive turbulence or flow disruptions.

  • Patent number: 5033269
Abstract: The invention is a compound motor having an internal combustion engine, a turbine driven by exhaust from the engine and compressor connected to the turbine. The compound motor has a clutch means to declutch the compressor from the turbine and to disable the turbine from transferring power to a gear set. The gear set is capable of simultaneously receiving power from the engine and the turbine and transferring this power to a final output shaft. The clutch mechanism brake or debrakes, and clutches or declutches, in response to torque or rotational force exerted on the turbine by the exhaust gas from the engine.

  • Patent number: 4840091
Abstract: Disclosed is a mechanism in a motor vehicle for hydraulically selecting the gears of an automatic transmission. The mechanism is a valve connected to a pressure source and having two sets of outlet ports, one set controlled by a manually operated linkage. The other set of outlet valves is controlled by a gear-shift mechanism responsive to reaction torque on an output shaft. The gear shift mechanism includes a planetary gear set connected between the output shaft and an input shaft leading from the transmission. The planetary gear set has a ring gear linked to a lever rotating an apertured ring in the housing. Rotating the ring selectively opens or blocks access to ports of the second set. The linkage between the planetary gear set and the valve has means to bias the planetary gear to a position corresponding to the "drive" mode of the automatic transmission.
