  • Publication number: 20230096889
Abstract: Various embodiments provide an electrosurgical resector tool comprising: a shaft defining a lumen; an energy conveying structure for carrying electromagnetic (EM) energy through the lumen of the shaft; an instrument tip mounted at a distal end of the shaft. The instrument tip comprises: a static portion comprising a first blade element; and a movable portion comprising a second blade element, wherein the movable portion is movable relative to the static portion between a closed position in which the first blade element and second blade element lie alongside each other to an open position in which the second blade element is spaced from the first blade element by a gap for receiving biological tissue. The instrument tip also includes a travel limiting mechanism operable to limit a maximum extent of relative movement between the second blade element and the first blade element in the open position and/or the closed position.

  • Publication number: 20220183751
Abstract: An interface joint with one or both of a needle actuation mechanism or an integrated shaft rotation mechanism. The interface joint comprises a flexible shaft between a housing and an electrosurgical instrument, e.g. for conveying power and/or fluid therebetween. The needle actuation mechanism comprises an actuation rod extending out of the housing and an actuator movably mounted on the housing. The shaft rotation mechanism comprises a rotation actuator rotatably mounted on the housing and operably coupled to the flexible shaft. Providing an integrated shaft rotation mechanism may obviate the need for a separate torque transmission unit. The improved needle actuation mechanism may use a pivoting connection to enable longer needle extension distances to be achieved for a given actuation distance.

  • Publication number: 20220000554
Abstract: An interface joint for interconnecting an electrosurgical generator and an electrosurgical instrument, the interface joint comprising: a housing having: an inlet for receiving electromagnetic energy from the electrosurgical generator, and an outlet; a slidable trigger on the housing, the slidable trigger being attached to a push rod that extends out of the housing through the outlet; and a single cable assembly for connecting the outlet to the electrosurgical instrument, the single cable assembly comprising a flexible sleeve that conveys the push rod and a coaxial cable that is connected to the inlet. The interface joint may include a reinforcement element coupled to a first portion of the push rod so as to reinforce the first portion. Additionally or alternatively, the interface joint may include a slide limiting mechanism coupled to the push rod and configured to limit a maximum slide distance of an internal tube over the push rod.

  • Publication number: 20200268445
Abstract: An electrosurgical instrument for delivering electromagnetic energy to biological tissue, the instrument comprising an active tip having an electrically conductive protective hull mounted on an underside thereof. The hull has a smoothly contoured convex undersurface, and is formed as a shaped piece of electrically conductive bio-compatible material having a low coefficient of friction with biological tissue (e.g. stainless steel) which has the dual function of (i) physically protecting tissue that lies underneath the active tip, and (ii) providing an electrical connection between a coaxial feed line and the active tip.
