  • Patent number: 9230233
Abstract: The systems described herein may provide mechanisms for recommending specialty packaging in a materials handling facility dependent on physical characteristics of items to be shipped and/or feedback received in response to previous shipments of the items. For example, if feedback indicates frequent low customer ratings for damage during shipping and/or for the suitability of the container in which a particular item was shipped, of if feedback indicates that concession costs were repeatedly incurred due to damage of the item during shipping, the item may be designated as needing special damage protection. This protection may be realized by shipping the item in sturdier containers, in containers of a more suitable size, and/or with improved or increased protective cushioning. For example, a stored indication that an item is designated for special damage protection may influence the selection of a container recommended for shipping the item, e.g., by excluding unsuitable containers from consideration.

  • Patent number: 9232501
Abstract: A method for Independent resource request for initial NAS signaling in a communication network comprising of transporting service request message of both the UE and RN via Base station to management entity of Evolved Packet Edge (EPE) within Evolved Packet Core (EPC), as a signaling message over uplink channel referred to as “Independent Resource Request” (IR Request) message. The service request response message from one of the management entity of EPE or management entities of UE and RN within EPC are transported as a signaling message to EPE via Base station over the downlink channel referred to as “Independent Admission Response” (IA Response). This manages bearer setup signaling as a single loop, by transportation of “IR Request” signaling message over uplink and receiving “IA Response” signaling message over downlink channels.

  • Publication number: 20150382047
Abstract: Systems and processes are disclosed for controlling television user interactions using a virtual assistant. A virtual assistant can interact with a television set-top box to control content shown on a television. Speech input for the virtual assistant can be received from a device with a microphone. User intent can be determined from the speech input, and the virtual assistant can execute tasks according to the user's intent, including causing playback of media on the television. Virtual assistant interactions can be shown on the television in interfaces that expand or contract to occupy a minimal amount of space while conveying desired information. Multiple devices associated with multiple displays can be used to determine user intent from speech input as well as to convey information to users. In some examples, virtual assistant query suggestions can be provided to the user based on media content shown on a display.

  • Publication number: 20150381392
Abstract: An approach is provided for increasing transmission throughput rates for a source signal transmitted over a wireless channel, applying faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling rates combined with tight frequency roll-off to the a source signal. A receiver is provided that compensates for ISI effects induced by the FTN rate and tight frequency roll-off, where the complexity of the receiver grows only linearly with the interference memory. The receiver comprises an equalizer configured to compensate for the ISI effects, and a decoder configured to decode the output of the equalizer to determine and regenerate the source signal. The receiver processes the received signal via a plurality of processing iterations. For one processing iteration, the decoder generates a set of a posteriori soft information based on the output of the equalizer, and the equalizer uses the a posteriori soft information as a priori soft information for a subsequent processing iteration.

  • Publication number: 20150381311
Abstract: In a method for generating a data unit conforming to a first communication protocol, a first field and a second field to be included in a preamble of the data unit are generated. The first field includes a first set of one or more information bits that indicate a duration of the data unit and is formatted such that the first field allows a receiver device that conforms to a second communication protocol to determine the duration of the data unit. The second field includes a second set of one or more information bits that indicate to a receiver device that conforms to the first communication protocol that the data unit conforms to the first communication protocol. The first field and the second field are modulated using a modulation scheme specified for a field corresponding to the first field and the second field, respectively, by the second communication protocol.

  • Publication number: 20150380409
Abstract: A range of lowest, low and regular threshold voltages are provided to three p-type devices and three n-type devices co-fabricated on a same substrate. For the p-type devices, the range is achieved for the lowest using an additional thick layer of a p-type work function metal in a gate structure and oxidizing it, the low Vt is achieved with the thick p-type work function metal alone, and the regular Vt is achieved with a thinner layer of the p-type work function metal. For the n-type devices, the lowest Vt is achieved by implanting tantalum nitride with arsenic, argon, silicon or germanium and not adding any of the additional p-type work function metal in the gate structure, the low Vt is achieved by not adding the additional p-type work function metal, and the regular Vt is achieved with a thinnest layer of the p-type work function metal.

  • Patent number: 9224207
Abstract: An approach to segmentation or clustering of a set of elements combines separate procedures and uses training data for those procedures on labeled data. This approach is applied to elements being components of an image of text (e.g., printed or handwritten). In some examples, the elements are connected sets of pixels. In images of text, the clusters can correspond to individual lines. The approach provides improved clustering performance as compared to any one of the procedures taken alone.

  • Patent number: 9225771
Abstract: In one embodiment, excess committed network appliance resources are shared for providing services within a network appliance. One approach maintains service resources in a committed service resource pool and one or more other pools of service resources. Service resources are taken from a corresponding pool as needed. Service resources are reallocated to the committed resource pool as needed to ensure that service resources are available to service corresponding packet streams at their corresponding committed rate. Examples of such services provided by a network appliance include, but are not limited to, network address translation (NAT), firewall, Internet Protocol Security (IPsec), virtual private network (VPN), or deep packet inspection (DPI) services.

  • Patent number: 9224061
Abstract: A system estimates text orientation in images captured using a handheld camera prior detecting text in the image. Text orientation is estimated based on edges detected within the image, and the image is rotated based on the estimated orientation. Text detection and processing is then performed on the rotated image. Non-text features along a periphery of the image may be sampled to assure that clutter will not undermine the estimation of orientation.
