  • Publication number: 20120207192
Abstract: In a wireless communication system wherein communication devices exchange information utilizing data units conforming to a first format, a method for generating a physical layer (PHY) data unit conforming to a second format and used to transmit PHY information includes generating a first sequence u of a channel estimation field (CEF) of the PHY data unit. The first sequence u of the CEF includes complementary Golay sequences a and b and is spread with a first cover code. The method also includes generating a second sequence v of the CEF. The second sequence v follows the first sequence u, includes the complementary Golay sequences a and b, and is spread with a second cover code different than the first cover code. The method also includes generating PHY information elements of the PHY data unit. The PHY information elements are not specified by the first format.

  • Publication number: 20120205289
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for recovery of spent lubricating oil. The evaporation of hydrocarbon fractions from spent lubricating oil is carried out in three steps. The first step is at approximately 150-1030 mbar and between 70-240° C. in which is greater than 99% water, greater than 99% of ethylene glycol and greater than 50% of hydrocarbon molecules with normal boiling point up to 310° C. are evaporated from spent oil. The second step is operated at 6-30 mbar and 200-2900 C in which predominantly gasoil and light vacuum gasoil fractions are evaporated. The third step is operated at 250-320° C. and 0.5-15 mbar in which mainly heavy vacuum gasoil (boiling range of 425 to 570° C. on ASTM D-1160 test) is evaporated from spent oil.

  • Publication number: 20120208337
Abstract: A low energy surface is formed by a high temperature anneal of the surfaces of trenches on each side of a gate stack. The material of the semiconductor layer reflows during the high temperature anneal such that the low energy surface is a crystallographic surface that is at a non-orthogonal angle with the surface normal of the semiconductor layer. A lattice mismatched semiconductor material is selectively grown on the semiconductor layer to fill the trenches, thereby forming embedded lattice mismatched semiconductor material portions in source and drain regions of a transistor. The embedded lattice mismatched semiconductor material portions can be in-situ doped without increasing punch-through. Alternately, a combination of intrinsic selective epitaxy and ion implantation can be employed to form deep source and drain regions.

  • Publication number: 20120209885
Abstract: Techniques provided for allowing external access by other users to private information that is maintained on local storage of a computer and owned by an information owner. The private information is uploaded from the local storage to an externally accessible information source that is accessible by the other users. A request from a user to access the private information is received by the owner, who determines whether to allow access the private information. If so, the owner sends a private information sharing authorization to a collaboration orchestrator, which retrieves the private information from the external source and provides the private information to the user. The owner optionally requests to collaborate with the user before deciding whether to allow access to the private information. One or both of the identities of the owner and user can remain anonymous until agreeing on revealing identities. A system and program product is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20120207075
Abstract: Methods, systems and devices enable efficient delivery of UDP packets over broadcast systems to receiver devices. UDP packets may be bundled and embedded within files for transmission over a file delivery framework, to deliver UDP packets over a broadcast network. A broadcast schedule message (BSM) may inform receiver devices of files and UDP packets that will be broadcast at a specified time, as well as describe the files and UDP packets. Files may be transmitted in file delivery pipes, which may be of different bandwidth and data rates. Receiver devices configured according to the embodiments may make use of the BSM message to select the UDP packets to be received based on the service or application to which the UDP packets are associated. Receiver devices activate receiver circuitry to capture the files and the UDP packets contained therein and pass the received files to applications or services requesting the files.

  • Publication number: 20120209822
Abstract: A system and methods for providing guarantees about faithful execution of databases that run under the control of an untrusted entity—such as a cloud computing service provider—that is different than the owner of the data and applications being outsourced; or runs on a server that may be compromised by unauthorized users. Specifically, the system and methods establishes that an untrusted database is being faithfully hosted and provides indemnity for the service provider from false claims, enabling the server to prove its innocence against untrue claims of faulty operation. The invention also provides assured provenance for all changes made to the database.

  • Patent number: 8244204
Abstract: A mechanism is provided to suspend or modify incoming call restrictions for a subscriber station for some time period when it is detected that an emergency call was made by that subscriber station, so as to disable the restriction that would otherwise block completion of an incoming call to that station. This allows a call placed by emergency personnel in response to the emergency call from the subscriber station (i.e. when the emergency personnel calls back the user that is involved in the emergency) to bypass any restrictions setup by the subscriber or by the network that would otherwise block the callback and allows the emergency callback to potentially reach the caller. This approach results in a systematic solution to blocking of emergency callbacks that applies to various kinds of restriction services yet is relatively simple to administer.

  • Patent number: 8243860
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for computing soft information at a receiver having a plurality of receive antennas. The receiver may be a mobile station or a base station, and can receive a signal vector that includes an intended signal from a first source as well as interfering signals from one or more other, interfering sources. The receiver can determine modulation information, such as the modulation scheme, used by each of the interfering sources. The mobile station can also estimate channel information, such as channel gain information, associated with each interfering source. Using the modulation and channel information, the receiver can compute soft information, such as a log-likelihood ratio. In some embodiments, the receiver can adaptively determine which interference sources and which receive antennas to use when computing the soft information.
