Patent number: 6832911Abstract: A device for relocating a lower jaw relative to an upper jaw having a first sleeve with a first holder mounted on its one end, and a second sleeve. An internal thread is located in one of the two sleeves and a matching external thread on the other sleeve, by which they are screwed together over varying lengths. A third sleeve having one end, i.e. the end facing the first holder, is mounted on the second sleeve and is adapted to dampen impacts that may act in the longitudinal direction. A rod is arranged in the third sleeve for longitudinal displacement. A second holder is mounted outside the third sleeve on that end of the rod which faces away from the first holder. A stop is provided on the rod or in the neighborhood of the second holder, and abuts directly or indirectly against that end of the third sleeve which faces away from the first holder and toward the second holder. The length of the rod is selected to ensure that in its abutting position it will extend right into the first sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2003Date of Patent: December 21, 2004Inventor: Rolf Förster

Publication number: 20040110109Abstract: A device for relocating a lower jaw relative to an upper jaw. The device is telescopically extensible and is a kind of a Herbst hinge, including a holder with an eye mounted on each of its two ends. The device can be mounted in articulated fashion, for example on a molar strip in the upper jaw and on a molar strip in the lower jaw. The molar strip is usually provided for this purpose with a counter-holder with an internal thread into which a head screw can be screwed through the respective holder of the device, the articulated connection being realized by the fact that either the shaft of the head screw or a shaft engages the eye of the device so as to permit the latter to rotate about the respective shaft.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2003Publication date: June 10, 2004Inventor: Rolf Forster

Publication number: 20040048222Abstract: The invention describes a composite palatal arch for the correction of the position of teeth, which is built up from a plurality of wire sections (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) made from different materials. One of the materials is a shape-memory alloy that assumes a superelastic state at the temperatures prevailing in a human mouth. The palatal arch comprises two end sections (2, 3), which are intended to fix the palatal arch in a tooth lock (16, 17) and which are made from of a normal-elastic material. The superelastic section (4, 5) of the arch is softer than are the normal-elastic sections (1, 2, 3). The superelastic material is present only in two intermediate sections (4, 5) between the two end sections (2, 3) and a central section (1), the two intermediate sections (4, 5) are each arranged adjacent one of the end sections (2, 3), and the central section (1) of the palatal arch consists of a normal-elastic material.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2003Publication date: March 11, 2004Inventors: Rolf Forster, Franz Gunter Sander

Patent number: 4600382Abstract: This invention relates to an orthodontic appliance comprising a low pull and/or a high pull, which low pull preferably extends through and is slidable in a guide sleeve of a nape pad, and the low pull and/or the high pull are provided at each end with a series of holes for a selective connection to spring elements connected to bow means. The novel orthodontic appliance is simpler, less bulky and less conspicuous. This is accomplished in that elastically stretchable flat strips of plastic material are provided at one end with an eyelet for connection to the low pull and/or the high pull at the series of holes and at the other end with an eyelet for connection to the bow means. That arrangement provides a pulling device which is flat rather than bulky and can easily be connected and which is convenient for the patient and can be made to have the color of the skin so that it is less conspicuous.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1985Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Assignee: Bernhard Forster GmbHInventor: Rolf Forster

Patent number: 4597738Abstract: An orthodontic device includes an upper jaw thrust plate and a lower jaw thrust plate. These plates are connected to the teeth and are provided in the front teeth region with activating rods and slideways respectively, cooperating to effect a sagittal displacement of the jaws relative to each other. Two treatment stages are to be combined and an optimum result of the treatment within a reduced time is to be ensured. The upper or lower jaw thrust plate includes two sections, which are connected by a jackscrew mechanism, to which the activating rods are secured.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1985Date of Patent: July 1, 1986Assignee: Bernhard Forster GmbHInventors: Gunter Sander, Rolf Forster

Patent number: 4545760Abstract: This invention relates to a wire-tensioning and/or -fixing orthodontic device comprising a bracket having preferably a bearing eye, a wire-engaging shoulder, and a retaining member which is rotatably mounted in the bearing eye and adapted to retain a correcting wire in engagement with said wire-engaging shoulder. For use in the lingual technique, the orthodontic device can be further miniaturized in that the base portion of the bracket has no flange arms and is secured to a backing pad and the latter is provided on the side opposite to the bracket with a metal fabric adapted to be adhesively fixed to a tooth. The backing pad comprises outwardly extending side arms (rotation-inducing arms, adaptation-inducing arms and activating arms), which are adapted to be activated by being bent.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1984Date of Patent: October 8, 1985Assignee: Bernhard Forster GmbHInventor: Rolf Forster

Patent number: 4482318Abstract: This invention relates to an orthodontic spreader, particularly for correcting the positions of molars in the upper jaw, and comprises pressure-transmitting nuts for applying force at points which are as close as possible to the center of resistance. The spreader is capable of applying a high pressure and has a large spreading capacity and is as convenient as possible for the patient. The actuating screw for moving the pressure-transmitting nuts in opposite directions comprises an actuating portion, which is disposed between said pressure-transmitting nuts. Guide rods are slidably mounted in both pressure-transmitting nuts and carry stops which axially restrain said guide rods.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1983Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignee: Bernhard Forster GmbHInventor: Rolf Forster

Patent number: 4292025Abstract: A wire loop adapted to be slung around a tooth to be rotated has two end portions which respectively extend through and are guided by two juxtaposed spaced apart through holes formed in a body. Polygonal roller means are rotatably mounted in said body between said holes and have radially outer edge portions. Said holes are laterally open toward said roller means to expose said wire end portions in said holes to said radially outer edge portions, which bite into the sides of said wire end portions in said holes. Said roller means are rotatable to move said wire end portions in said holes by means of said radially outer edge portions biting into said wire end portions.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1980Date of Patent: September 29, 1981Assignee: Bernhard Forster GmbHInventor: Rolf Forster
