An electrical sparking device ignites air and fuel flowing through the inner passage. An evacuating tube extends from the manifold through the inner passage to the distal portion of the inner tube. The evacuating tube conveys moisture that may accumulate at the distal portion of the inner passage through the bleed off passage to the exterior.

    Abstract: A pressure balance unit mounts to a combustion chamber having a fluctuating negative interior pressure. The unit has a housing inner portion mounted to the combustion chamber, the housing inner portion having an inner end located within the combustion chamber. The inner end has an opening that communicates the interior of the housing inner portion with the interior of the combustion chamber. A housing outer portion is located on an outer end of the housing inner portion. An annular intake is located between the housing inner and outer portions for drawing ambient air into the housing inner and outer portions. The intake and the opening in the housing inner portion have flow areas sized so as to balance pressure in the housing outer portion with pressure in the chamber. The intake is defined by a tapered outer end on the housing inner portion and a tapered inner end on an the housing outer portion. A pilot tube can extend from the pressure balance unit into the combustion chamber to light the burner.

    Abstract: An igniter assembly for igniting waste gas discharged from a stack mounts to the upper end of the stack. The igniter assembly has a nozzle with a cap on its upper end that extends radially outward from the nozzle. The nozzle is mounted parallel to the axis of the stack, with the cap being perpendicular. Ports extend downward and outward through the nozzle for discharging flame jets downward and outward. The cap overhangs the inner diameter of the stack a slight distance. The sparking device locates within an inner member and is supplied with a small bypass flow of gas. The sparking device ignites a flame within the nozzle, which in turn ignites the main flow of gas flowing through the housing of the igniter assembly.

The nozzle has a plurality of slots for the discharge of flame with the slots located at the lower end of the nozzle being of larger surface area than at the other end of the nozzle. Auxiliary lines extend through the housing for discharging low volume waste gas and flame extinguishing fluid, if desired.

    Abstract: A plastic film sleeve is used to facilitate inserting a foot into a boot. The sleeve has an open top to receive the foot and an open bottom from which the toes protrude. After insertion of the foot into the sleeve, the foot is inserted into the boot. When the foot reaches the instep and upper edge of the heel section of the boot, further downward pressure causes the sleeve to tear along a perforated line extending along the rearward side of the sleeve. When the foot is fully into the boot, the sleeve is pulled apart at the tear line at the top and pulled from the boot and discarded.

    Abstract: An igniter for gas discharge pipes such as flare lines produces a remotely controlled flame. The igniter has a tubular housing that is mounted to the gas discharge pipe. A fuel line extends through the housing and terminates in a nozzle. A swirling device creates a swirling motion in the nozzle to prevent extinguishment due to high winds. An electrical system creates an electrical spark in the nozzle to ignite the fuel. An auxiliary line provides fuel unmixed with air to the nozzle to enrichen the mixture and provide coloration to the flame. The nozzle extends laterally from the housing. The mounting means allows the nozzle to discharge the flame across the face of the discharge pipe. A heat shield protects the upstream end of the housing from heat due to the discharge pipe.

    Abstract: An intravenous apparatus for administering liquids to a patient, including an elongated supply tube having a first end which is adapted to be connected to a reservoir of liquid. A flow-regulating device is attached to the remote end of the supply tube. A control tube having a length approximately the same as the supply tube is adapted to hang alongside the supply tube. Within the flow-regulating device is a flexible member such as a tube, bladder or diaphragm--with liquid that is being furnished by the supply tube passing interiorly of said flexible member, and there being some means for externally pressurizing said flexible member. A preferred means for pressurizing the flexible member is a column of liquid maintained in the control tube, with the control liquid having the same specific gravity as that of the supply liquid. A check valve is provided so that liquid may temporarily pass out of the supply tube and into the control tube, until a desired height of liquid has been achieved in the control tube.

    Abstract: A device having utility in interfering with a person's desire to hold an object such as a cigarette, cigar or pipe, between his lips, i.e., an anti-smoking device. In the form of a cigarette holder, it includes a generally tubular shell having first and second ends, with the first end being adapted to receive a cigarette; the second end thereof includes structure adapted to be held between a person's lips. A DC voltage source (such as a dry cell battery) of at least six volts and preferably nine volts is mounted within the shell. First and second electrically conductive members are connected to the output of the DC source, with the distal ends of said conductive members extending alongside the lip-contacting structure so that they may be readily touched by a person's lips.
