  • Patent number: 4218355
Abstract: Low organic solvent-containing coating compositions are prepared by blending (i) an ester-containing polyol, having a number average molecular weight of from about 140 to about 700, a hydroxyl value of from about 160 to about 1100 and a viscosity of less than about 1200 poises, which is derived from an aromatic or alicyclic monobasic acid and, optionally, a minor proportion of a polybasic acid and a polyol having an average hydroxyl functionality of from about 2.1 to about 5.0 with (ii) an aminealdehyde crosslinking agent. Particularly valuable coating compositions which can be cured at relatively low temperatures are obtained by incorporating a cure accelerating catalyst into the composition. The compositions aid in environmental pollution control and form films having good adhesion, flexibility, hardness, stain resistance, detergent resistance, solvent resistance and durability.

  • Patent number: 4206104
Abstract: Resin mixtures of N,N'-dihydroxyalkyl ester substituted imidazolidinediones are especially useful in coating compositions having a low organic solvent content. The substituted imidazolidinediones have the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R' are independently hydrogen or hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, X is ##STR2## where the R" groups are independently hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 17 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 4187380
Abstract: Esters of imidazolidinedione-based triepoxides are especially useful in coating compositions having a low organic solvent content. The esters have the formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R' are independently hydrogen or hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, one X is hydrogen, one Y is hydrogen, one Z is hydrogen and the other X, Y and Z are ##STR2## where the R" groups are independently hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 17 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 4174337
Abstract: Hydroxy-functional esters of substituted imidazolidinediones have the formula: ##STR1## where X is hydrogen, ##STR2## provided both X's are not hydrogen, where R and R' are independently hydrogen or hydrocarbon groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, with one Y being hydrogen, one Z being hydrogen and the other Y and Z being ##STR3## where the R" groups are independently hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 17 carbon atoms. The novel compounds are especially useful when formulated with a crosslinking agent and used in low organic solvent-containing coating compositions.
