  • Patent number: 7021279
Abstract: A direct injection internal combustion engine, especially an Otto engine, is provided with layered lean operation and internal exhaust-gas recirculation. An exhaust-gas aftertreatment for reducing Nox using an Nox storage catalyst is also provided. This combination is to achieve the highest possible exhaust-gas recirculation rates with the lowest HC and Nox emission values. A tumble flow is provided for the incoming fresh gases, which may contain recirculated exhaust gas from external exhaust-gas recirculation. The swirl axis of the incoming fresh gases therefore extends substantially crosswise to the piston movement. This results in an emissions-reducing, optimal mixture inside the cylinder during the layered lean operation.

  • Patent number: 6901742
Abstract: A process for detecting a state of a catalyst system installed in an exhaust gas channel of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, through which catalyst system exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine flows so that the exhaust gas can be purified, the process including the steps of: detecting at least one operating parameter of the catalyst system over a predetermined time period, determining a total energy output of the internal combustion engine within the predetermined time period, and calculating a characteristic value (k) based on a ratio of the at least one operating parameter to the total energy output.

  • Patent number: 6578546
Abstract: A method for controlling an internal combustion engine determines a desired torque based on an actuating position of an accelerator pedal. A normal fuel quantity based on a given normal efficiency is determined. A relative efficiency is determined based on at least current operating conditions of the internal combustion engine. The normal fuel quantity is corrected based on the relative efficiency in order to determine a fuel quantity which is to be metered to the internal combustion engine. A device for controlling an internal combustion engine is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5582143
Abstract: An actuating device for a decompression valve of an internal combustion engine with a cable starter, wherein the decompression valve is positioned within the cylinder of the internal combustion engine and comprises a valve member biased into its closed position, has a transmission lever having a longitudinal extension and being rotatable about its longitudinal axis. The transmission lever has a first and a second end. A cable drum for receiving the starter cable of the cable starter is provided. The cable drum has an axis of rotation about which the cable drum is rotated when the starter cable is pulled. The longitudinal axis of the transmission lever is perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the cable drum and spaced from the rotational plane of the cable drum.

  • Patent number: 5522143
Abstract: The invention is directed to a tensioning arrangement for saw chains of motor-driven chain saws which include a device for longitudinally displacing the guide bar. The clamped guide bar is released so that the adjusting arrangement can be actuated for the longitudinal displacement of the guide bar. By rotating a disc having a spiral slot, a slide piece, which is coupled to the guide bar, is displaced in the longitudinal direction. Assembly is simplified and handling facilitated when the tension in the saw chain is adjusted. This is achieved by making the slide piece on the spiral disc so that it is not released therefrom but instead is held so as to be rotationally and longitudinally displaceable. The slide piece is fixedly connected to the guide bar by using appropriate attachment devices.

  • Patent number: 5491899
Abstract: The invention is directed to a tensioning arrangement for a saw chain of a motor-driven chain saw. The saw chain runs on a guide bar mounted on the motor housing of the chain saw. The tensioning arrangement includes a rotatable disc having a spirally-shaped guide slot in which a lug of a slide piece engages. The longitudinal displacement of the guide bar is provided by rotating the disc. The guide slot in the disc extends over a rotational angle of at least 270.degree.. A still lesser slope of the guide slot is provided with a rotational angle in the range of 360.degree. to 450.degree.. The tensioning arrangement is especially suitable for adjusting the guide bar in motor-driven chain saws thereby adjusting the tension in the saw chain.

  • Patent number: 4248610
Abstract: A dust-collecting electrostatic precipitator has a housing, the top of which is adapted to form a pressure-relief opening and is closed by a sealing membrane divided by a plurality of intentional tear lines into zones which can be blown upwardly and back to relieve pressure within the housing. The membrane is covered, in turn, by a rain-shielding roof spaced above the sealing top and having a portion forming an elastic cover which is only loosely held against internal pressure.
