  • Patent number: 8845144
Abstract: A light emitting diode (LED) driver case includes a housing, driver circuitry, an recessed area in the housing, and a luminaire disconnect. The luminaire disconnect is coupled to the recessed area in the housing and extends toward an aperture in a top plate of a LED module. The luminaire disconnect can be fixedly or removably coupled to the recessed area in the housing. When the luminaire disconnect is removably coupled to the recessed area, one or more of a number of retaining features can be used to prevent the luminaire disconnect from moving or to limit the movement of the luminaire disconnect.

  • Patent number: 8675332
Abstract: A recessed light fixture includes a thermally protected light emitting diode (“LED”) module. The thermally protected LED module includes a thermal protector positioned in series between a source of electrical power and an LED driver and is configured to open a circuit to prevent power from being supplied by the power source to the LED driver for an LED package when a thermal rating or activation temperature of the thermal protector is exceeded. For example, the maximum operating temperature of the LED driver may be 90 degrees Celsius, and the thermal rating of the thermal protector may be 80 degrees Celsius, and when the temperature of the driver or a mounting bracket upon which the driver is mounted reaches 80 degrees Celsius, the thermal protector opens a circuit and removes current flow from the power source to the driver, thereby removing power to the LED package.

  • Publication number: 20130294084
Abstract: The luminaire includes a light emitting diode (LED) module that includes a heat sink with an outer wall defining a top cavity and a bottom cavity and a mounting flange generally positioned along the bottom of the outer wall. A LED light source is positioned within the bottom cavity and in thermal communication with the heat sink. The bottom surface of the mounting flange includes one or more alignment features or keys extending out from the bottom surface. A trim having a corresponding alignment aperture is matingly engaged by positioning all or a portion of the alignment feature into the alignment aperture to ensure proper orientation of the trim with the LED module and to provide sufficient surface area for good thermal transfer between the heat sink and the trim.

  • Patent number: 8465182
Abstract: A recessed light fixture has a plurality of fasteners for securing a can or top hat of the recessed light fixture to a substrate, e.g., sheetrock ceiling and/or open frame mounting plate. Each of the plurality of fasteners comprise a clevis bracket, a clevis hook having perpendicular tabs that rotatably attach the clevis hook to the clevis bracket. When the recessed light fixture is inserted into an opening of the substrate, the clevis hooks rotate out of the way into slots in a wall of the recessed light fixture can. Once the clevis hooks clear the substrate, the clevis hooks rotate back through the wall of the recessed light fixture can. Then the clevis brackets are slideably moved toward the substrate, whereby gripping portions of the clevis hooks will engage the substrate and thereby hold the recessed light fixture to the substrate.

  • Patent number: 8436259
Abstract: An electrical box described herein allows for separate wire connection areas for low voltage and line voltage wiring within a single box. The electrical box includes a voltage divider positioned within the box that divides the box into two distinct portions, thereby providing a low voltage wiring connection area that is separate from the line voltage wiring connection area. The electrical box also includes multiple knockouts, each covering an opening that provides a passageway from the interior of the box to the exterior of the box. At least one knockout and associated opening are positioned to provide access to the low voltage wiring connection area and another knockout and associate opening is positioned along to the box to provide access to the line voltage wiring connection area. The box provides an electrical junction for a luminaire, such as a downlight, or other electrical device.
