  • Patent number: 10028161
Abstract: A node increments values of performance measurement (PM) counters to indicate characteristics of at least one unlicensed frequency band used for wireless communication during a first time interval. The node provides the values of the PM counters to a controller that is configured to aggregate the values of the PM counters for the node with values of PM counters for other nodes. A controller receives values of PM counters from a plurality of nodes to indicate characteristics of wireless communication by each of the plurality of nodes using the at least one unlicensed frequency band over the first time interval. The controller aggregates the values of the PM counters for the plurality of nodes and modifies a configuration of at least one of the plurality of nodes based on the aggregated values.

  • Patent number: 9918232
Abstract: A node in a wireless communication system includes a transceiver to receive one or more configuration parameters to configure the node for communication in an unlicensed frequency band. The node also includes a processor to implement a state machine that transitions, based on the one or more configuration parameters, between an enable state in which the node supports wireless connectivity in the unlicensed frequency band, a disable state in which the node does not support wireless connectivity in the unlicensed frequency band, and a flywheel state in which the node supports wireless connectivity in the unlicensed frequency band for a predetermined time interval before transitioning to the disable state.

  • Patent number: 9755799
Abstract: A base station coordinates transmission of positioning reference signals and non-reference signals. The base station includes a transceiver to detect a reference signal transmitted by one or more other base stations in one or more physical resource blocks. The base station also includes a processor to identify a pattern of resources allocated to the one or more other base stations based on the one or more physical resource blocks including the reference signal. The transceiver is to bypass transmission of non-reference signals in physical resource blocks indicated by the pattern.

  • Publication number: 20140004864
Abstract: A call request is processed by first determining at a shared transport Call Admission Control (CAC) mechanism an occupancy of each of a plurality of technology-specific CAC mechanisms. If one of the plurality of technology-specific CAC mechanisms is not being utilized, transport bandwidth associated with the one of the plurality of technology-specific CAC mechanisms that is not being utilized is assigned to a second of the plurality of technology-specific CAC mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 8406383
Abstract: A communication network is disclosed that uses voice authentication to provide call control. The communication network includes a call control function, a voice collection system, a voice authentication system, and a permission system. The voice collection system collects voice samples of a first party during the call to a second party, and transmits the collected voice samples to the voice authentication system. The voice authentication system compares the collected voice samples to stored voice samples to determine the identity of the first party. The permission system determines whether the first party is authorized for the call based on the identity of the first party. The permission system generates results based on the determination and transmits the results to the call control function. The call control function then processes the results, and interrupts the call if the first party is not authorized.

  • Patent number: 8380191
Abstract: A wireless network and method are disclosed that provide temporary data service to a party. For the invention, a temporary data service system receives a request from a first party to establish temporary data service for a second party. The temporary data service system then configures the wireless network to establish temporary data service for the second party, such as by setting up a temporary subscriber profile or temporary account for the second party in the wireless network. A notification system then generates a notification message indicating that the temporary data service has been established for the second party, and transmits the notification message to the second party. The second party may use the temporary data service to access some type of data message or data file, such as a picture message sent by the first party.

  • Patent number: 8126131
Abstract: A communication network and method are disclosed that block calls from a calling party based on the network access type of a called party. The communication network of the invention includes a permission system, an access system, and a call control system. Based on a call from a calling party to a called party, the permission system identifies permissions associated with the calling party. The access system identifies a network access type for the called party, such as wireless, circuit-based, etc. The call control element determines if the network access type for the called party is permitted by the calling party based on the permissions associated with the calling party. If the network access type for the called party is not permitted by the calling party, then the call control system releases the call.

  • Patent number: 7536183
Abstract: A method and system for interworking between communications equipment based on different protocols allows communications service providers to use more than one technology in their networks. For example, Mobile Application Part (MAP) messages of TIA-41 are interworked to corresponding messages of the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM), and GSM MAP messages are interworked to corresponding TIA-41 MAP messages. An inter technology bridge translates location and routing messages between, for example, an originating mobile switching center (MSC) based on a first technology (e.g., TIA-41 or GSM) and a home location register (HLR) based on a second technology (e.g., GSM or TIA-41). The ITB may include one or more databases for storing information useful for generating attributes or parameters required in an output message that cannot be directly generated from information supplied in an associated input message.
