  • Patent number: 6702757
Abstract: An apparatus for examining a subject's brain functions acquires two or more indexes of pupillary indexes that show the subject's pupillary characteristics, visual indexes that show the subject's visual system functions, intelligence evaluating indexes that are results of the an intelligence test carried out on the subject, and behavior evaluating indexes that show the results the subject's behavior examination. Two or more indexes are stored in a memory and outputted from an output unit. By combining two or more kinds of independent indexes, accurate determination of dementia cases and further the degree of senescence of brain functions can be achieved. In addition, the brain function examining apparatus puts together a number of a plurality of indexes by the multivariate calculation and converts the indexes into different values of fewer numbers.

Abstract: By combining various indexes concerning brain functions, still more highly accurate brain function examination is achieved. An apparatus for examining the subject's brain functions acquires two or more indexes of pupillary indexes that show subject's pupillary characteristics, visual indexes that show subject's visual system functions, intelligence evaluating indexes that are results of the intelligence test carried out on the subject, and behavior evaluating indexes that show the results of subject's behavior examination. By combining two or more kinds of independent indexes, accurate determination of dementia cases and further the degree of senescence of brain functions can be achieved. In addition, the brain function examining apparatus put together a number of a plurality of indexes by the multivariate calculation and converts into different values of fewer numbers. Thus, brain functions can be examined simply and easily.

  • Patent number: 5759646
Abstract: Proposed is an improvement in a vessel, e.g., crucible, of pyrolytic boron nitride (PBN) used, for example, in the process of molecular beam epitaxy for melting silicon and the like at a high temperature. Different from conventional PBN crucibles used for such a process, in which contamination of high-purity silicon is unavoidable by the reaction of molten silicon with PBN or a thermal decomposition products of boron nitride, the inventive PBN vessel is provided on the surface with a protective coating layer of pyrolytic graphite or a refractory metal such as platinum so as not to cause troubles due to contamination of high-purity silicon melted therein with the crucible materials.

  • Patent number: 5704442
Abstract: A frame structure for a motorcycle provided with a sub-frame extending forwardly from pivot plates fixed at the lower ends of a main frame. The sub-frame includes a U-shaped member having right and left opening ends thereof connected to the pivot plates at the lower ends of the main frame. The sub-frame extends approximately horizontally and forwardly from the connecting portions so that the front end portion of the sub-frame is not connected to the down frames.

  • Patent number: 5568726
Abstract: To provide an exhaust pipe structure capable of arranging a plurality of exhaust pipes in a restricted space inside a cover and suppressing the discoloring of the cover due to an increase in the temperature of the cover. Each of a plurality of exhaust pipes introduced from each cylinder of a multi-cylinder engine includes a double-pipe structure of an outer pipe and an inner pipe. The exhaust pipes pass inside the cover in such a manner that at least one exhaust pipe near the inner side surface of the cover is left as being of the double-pipe structure, and at least each of the remaining exhaust pipes has a portion of a single-pipe structure.

  • Patent number: 4271795
Abstract: A spark ignition fuel injection reciprocatory internal combustion engine with dual induction system is provided which has within a cylinder head a primary intake port passage to direct air charge into a cylinder to swirl therein and a secondary intake port passage to direct air charge into the cylinder in such a direction as to impede and reduce the swirling motion of the air charge issuing from the primary intake port passage. An intake valve, including a valve stem and a valve head, is reciprocably mounted within the cylinder head, and an annular wall or tube is fixedly positioned in a bore in the cylinder head. The primary intake port passage communicates with the exterior of this tube and the secondary intake port passage communicates with the interior of the tube. This tube extends to a position closely adjacent to, or in engagement with, the valve head of the intake valve when the valve is in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4270500
Abstract: A spark ignition reciprocatory internal combustion engine with dual induction system is provided which has within a cylinder head a primary induction passage or a primary intake port passage to direct fluid charge into a cylinder to swirl therein and a secondary induction passage or a secondary intake port passage to direct fluid charge into the cylinder in such a direction as to impeded and reduce the swirling motion of the first fluid charge to provide a low "swirl ratio" within the cylinder, thereby to maintain the volumetric efficiency of the engine at a sufficiently high level. A primary throttle valve is provided to control the quantity of fluid charge entering into the primary induction passage and a secondary throttle valve is provided to control the quantity of fluid charge entering into the secondary induction passage.

  • Patent number: 4246874
Abstract: A spark ignition fuel injection reciprocatory internal combustion engine with dual induction system has within a cylinder head a primary intake passage to direct air fuel mixture charge into a cylinder to swirl therein and a secondary intake passage to direct air charge into the cylinder in such a direction as to impede the swirling motion of the air fuel mixture charge, thereby to maintain the volumetric efficiency of the engine at a sufficiently high level. A fuel injector is so positioned as to discharge fuel into the primary intake passage. An air flow sensor is provided upstream of primary and secondary throttle valves to detect the total of flow of induction air fed to the engine so that fuel is discharged at a rate proportional to the total induction air flow. Under engine operating conditions when only the primary throttle valve opens, air fuel mixture charge will swirl at a sufficiently high rate as to enhance evaporation and dispersion of fuel droplets.
