  • Patent number: 4425461
Abstract: The present invention relates to mixtures of sulfonated thermoplastic polymers and sulfonated elastomeric polymers which function as viscosification agents when added to oil-based drilling muds which are the fluids used to maintain pressure, cool drill bits, and lift cuttings from the holes in the drilling operation for oil and gas wells. The sulfonated thermoplastic and elastomeric polymers both have about 5 to about 200 meq. of sulfonate groups per 100 grams of the sulfonated thermoplastic or elastomeric polymers, wherein the sulfonated groups are neutralized with a metallic cation or an amine or ammonium counterion. A polar cosolvent can optionally be added to the mixture of oil drilling mud and sulfonated thermoplastic and elastomeric polymers, wherein the polar cosolvent increases the solubility of the sulfonated thermoplastic and elastomeric polymer in the oil drilling mud by decreasing the strong ionic interactions between the sulfonate groups of the sulfonated polymers.

  • Patent number: 4387172
Abstract: This invention relates to emulsion type adhesive compositions which include a metal neutralized sulfonated elastomeric co or terpolymer, wherein the neutralized sulfonated copolymer has about 5 to about 250 meq. of neutralized sulfonate groups per 100 grams of the neutralized sulfonated copolymer, and less than about 200 parts by weight of a hydrocarbon resin of a petroleum or coal tar distillate, having about 5 to 6 carbon atoms, the hydrocarbon resin being composed of aliphatic dienes and monoolefins per 100 parts by weight of the neutralized sulfonated co or terpolymer.

  • Patent number: 4273846
Abstract: An imaging member comprising a charge generation layer comprising a layer of photoconductive material and a contiguous charge transport layer of a polycarbonate resin material having dispersed therein from about 25 to about 75 percent by weight of one or more diamine compound having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of a lower alkyl group having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, chlorine in the ortho, meta or para position, a para phenyl group and combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 4233384
Abstract: A photosensitive member having at least two electrically operative layers is disclosed. The first layer comprises a photoconductive layer which is capable of photogenerating holes and injecting photogenerated holes into a contiguous charge transport layer. The charge transport layer comprises a polycarbonate resin containing from about 25 to about 75 percent by weight of one or more of a compound having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an ortho, meta or para alkyl group having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, an ortho, meta or para halogen atom, a para phenyl group and combinations thereof.
