  • Patent number: 6827567
Abstract: Powder mixture is supplied into a die under a state that a center pin is located lower than the top surface of the die, after which the center pin is lifted up to a given molding position where an annular molding space is defined between the center pin and the die. The powder mixture is then compressed from upper and lower sides with an upper plunger and a lower plunger to form a pellet. The center pin and the lower plunger are simultaneously lifted up to remove the pellet out of the die.

  • Patent number: 6605388
Abstract: In a first process, an electrically conductive thin metal plate 7 is subjected to a press molding process employing a plurality of punches 3 in a primary molding block 1 and a plurality of dies 4 in a secondary molding block 2, so as to form therein a plurality of hollow projections 9 that project from one side of the metal plate 7, and bulges 14 that bulge out in a direction opposite to that of the projections 9, positioned between the projections 9. In a second process, the metal plate 7 on which have been formed the plurality of projections 9 and bulges 14 is subjected to either chemical etching or electrolytic etching, so as to form through holes 17 by corrosively removing thin-walled portions 11 from the tips of the projections 9, and, at the same time, to corrosively form innumerable fine irregularities 18 over the entire surface of the metal plate 7.

  • Patent number: 6322922
Abstract: A metal reinforcing plate is welded in place close to the opening on the inside of the battery case, and a plastic insulation gasket and a sealing member provided with an anti-explosion mechanism or the like are sequentially mounted on the metal reinforcing plate. By this arrangement, higher battery capacity can be realized by eliminating the waste of space because it is unnecessary to form a conventional indentation around the upper wall of a battery case. A sealed battery construction having an anti-explosion mechanism and being highly reliable in terms of leakage prevention can be thereby obtained.

  • Patent number: 6202271
Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing expanded mesh sheets provides for forming fine slits in a metal sheet at a slit section by plate cutters, but excluding portions in a center and both sides in a widthwise direction of the metal sheet. The areas where the slits have been formed are drawn out at an expanding section thereby opening the slits and obtaining a mesh sheet which has solid portions in the central portion and on both sides. The mesh sheet is flattened at a rolling device to obtain the expanded mesh sheet. An electrode sheet is prepared by applying an active material onto mesh portions of the expanded mesh sheet, and collectors for a battery are cut out from the electrode sheet such that lead connecting portions thereof are located at the solid portion of the mesh sheet where there are no openings.

  • Patent number: 6068110
Abstract: A conveying holder for cylindrical cell is provided which is capable of stably supporting a cylindrical cell irrespective of variation in outer diameter of the cell or impact during transfer. An outer wall member 20 of which inner diameter is greater than the diameter of a cylindrical cell 7 is provided. A plurality of elastic inner wall portions 21 are concentrically arranged to have a distance from the inner side of the outer wall member 20, each elastic inner wall portion joined at both ends to the outer wall member 20. A cell holding portion 22 is provided projecting inwardly from the inner side of each elastic inner wall portion 21 and having a cell holding surface 29 thereof corresponding in shape to the outer side of the cylindrical cell 7. The cell holding surfaces 29 are arranged along a concentric circle which is smaller in diameter than the cylindrical cell 7 so that they can hold the cylindrical cell 7 in-between under pressure.

  • Patent number: 5718395
Abstract: A winding mandrel holds a central portion of a belt-like electrode assembly extending flatly and rotates to form a spiral roll of the belt-like electrode assembly around this winding mandrel. The belt-like electrode assembly includes a first region extending in one direction from the central portion and a second region extending in the opposite direction from the central portion. A first attracting device is disposed at one side of the winding mandrel for attracting the first region of the belt-like electrode assembly. A second attracting device is disposed at the opposite side of the winding mandrel for attracting the second region of the belt-like electrode assembly.

  • Patent number: 5659946
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a multicell battery by connecting a plurality of cells in series, with the purposes of improving the charge/discharge characteristics and enhancing the productivity of the manufacturing process. A convex electrode terminal formed in the upper part of one cell is welded to one end of a lead tab, and another cell is disposed above the cell connected to the lead tab so that the center lines of the two cells are parallel. A flat electrode terminal formed in the lower part of the other cell and another end of the lead tab are welded indirectly.

  • Patent number: 4662533
Abstract: A safety valve device used for enclosed cells, in which safety valve device an elastic valve body, which has a cross section with not more than eight angles, is placed in a valve chamber formed between a cap type positive terminal and a dish type opening seal member. Owing to the above-described construction, the volume ratio of the elastic valve body to the interior of the valve chamber can be reduced to a low level. Moreover, the valve body is placed in the center of the interior of the valve chamber so as to seal a gas discharge port reliably, and minimize the variation of the safety valve operating pressure.
