Publication number: 20040067425Abstract: A method of manufacturing a luminescent screen assembly, having a light-absorbing matrix with a plurality of substantially equally-sized openings therein, on an inner surface of a faceplate panel of a cathode-ray tube (CRT) is provided. The method include the steps of exposing a first photoresist layer to light from a light source, located relative to a central source position, as well as two symmetrical source positions located relative to the central source position. Thereafter, a second photoresist layer and a third photoresist layer are sequentially exposed to define second guardbands of light-absorbing material and third guardbands of light-absorbing material, respectively. However, the light source positions for the second photoresist layer and the third photoresist layer are located at asymmetric positions relative to the central source position.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2003Publication date: April 8, 2004Inventors: Samuel Pearlman, Robert Earl Kreider, Richard LaPerita

Publication number: 20030059692Abstract: A method of manufacturing a luminescent screen assembly, having a light-absorbing matrix with a plurality of substantially equally-sized openings therein, on an inner surface of a faceplate panel of a cathode-ray tube (CRT) is provided. The tube has a color selection electrode spaced from the inner surface of the faceplate panel in which the color selection electrode has a plurality of strands interleaved with slots. The method includes the steps of providing a first photoresist layer, whose solubility is altered when exposed to light, such that greater dosages of light reduce the solubility thereof. The first photoresist layer is applied to the inner surface of the faceplate panel. The first photoresist layer is exposed to light from a light source, located relative to a central source position, as well as two symmetrical source positions relative to the central source position.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2001Publication date: March 27, 2003Inventors: Samuel Pearlman, Robert Earl Kreider, Richard LaPeruta

Patent number: 6431150Abstract: A fuel system is provided for supplying fuel to a fuel injector associated with a cylinder head, wherein the fuel injector has an opening and the cylinder head has a bore. The fuel system includes a fuel pipe disposable in the bore of the cylinder head and including a pipe body having first and second ends. The first end is engageable with the fuel injector and alignable with the opening. The fuel system further includes a fuel line assembly including a fuel line having an end that is engageable with the second end of the pipe body. The assembly further includes a rotatable nut engageable with the fuel line and threadingly engageable with the cylinder head for urging the end of the fuel line into engagement with the second end of the pipe body to thereby urge the first end of the pipe body into engagement with the fuel injector.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Detroit Diesel CorporationInventors: Samuel Pearlman, Jared J. Patent number: 6298814Abstract: A sectionalized rocker arm cover assembly (10) is utilized for diesel engine (14) applications having overhead high pressure fuel lines (26). The fuel lines (26) connect to fuel injectors (20) that protrude through a primary member (16) of the rocker arm cover assembly (10). The rocker arm cover assembly (10) is sectionalized longitudinally. Sectionalizing the cover assembly (10) obviates the need to dismantle the fuel lines (26) and permits easy access to service the rocker arms (29). The injectors (20) are disposed longitudinally and provide vertical support to the rocker arm cover assembly (10).Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2000Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: Detroit Diesel CorporationInventors: Samuel Pearlman, Jared Keyes

Patent number: 6199539Abstract: A circular cross-sectional fuel pipe can be prevented from undesired rotation in an engine cylinder head, by a key-key slot combination having a relatively small radial dimension. The key slot is formed by a groove formed in a cylindrical sleeve that is press fit in a counterbore machined in the cylinder head. The mating key can be a ball, or pin, or bar press fit into a side surface of the fuel pipe.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2000Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Detroit Diesel CorporationInventors: Samuel Pearlman, James Edward McCarthy, Jr., David Henry Mitchell, Ronald Michael Tkac

Patent number: 6037086Abstract: A light-absorbing matrix 23, having openings therein, is formed on an interior surface of a faceplate panel 12 of a cathode-ray tube 10 by providing a photoreceptor thereon, electrostatically charging the photoreceptor 72 to a substantially uniform level of charge, and exposing the photoreceptor to light through openings 33 in a color selection electrode 24 to selectively discharge the more intensely illuminated areas of the photoreceptor, without substantially discharging the less intensely illuminated areas. The photoreceptor 72 comprises a plurality of layers including a photoresist layer 56, a conductive layer 62, and a photoconductive layer 66. The openings 33 in the color selection electrode 24 have a dimension substantially greater than the dimension of the openings in the resultant matrix 23.The photoreceptor 72 is contacted with a liquid toner having charged pigment particles which form toner lines 84 on the less intensely illuminated areas of the photoreceptor.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1998Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.,Inventors: Istvan Gorog, Richard LaPeruta, Jr., Samuel Pearlman, Nitin Vithalbher Desai, Wilber Clarence Stewart, Gregory James Cohee, Richard William Nosker, Pabitra Datta, deceased, Danielle Helene Herford

Patent number: 5744270Abstract: The novel method for producing a coded marking on a CRT faceplate panel having an exterior and an interior surface with a viewing area surrounded by a periphery and having a luminescent screen with a plurality of different light-emitting phosphors separated by light-absorbing material includes the steps of: depositing a suitable photoresist on the interior surface of the panel to form a layer that extends across the viewing area and onto the periphery; illuminating areas of the photoresist on both the viewing area and the periphery with actinic radiation to selectively change the solubility of the photoresist; developing the photoresist to remove the more soluble areas, thereby exposing underlying portions of the interior surface of the panel while leaving retained areas of less soluble photoresist. The retained areas of the photoresist and the exposed portions of the interior surface of the panel are then overcoated with a light-absorbing material which is dried to form a coating.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1996Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Samuel Pearlman, Robert Anthony Duschl, Anthony Stanley Baran, Glenn William Brunner, George Simon Gadbois, Frank Thomas DiAugustine

Patent number: 4749385Abstract: A method of providing clean air to a workpiece comprises positioning the workpiece adjacent to a first opening in a conduit. The conduit includes a central segment and a peripheral segment having, respectively, the first opening and a second opening disposed at opposite ends of the conduit. The peripheral segment surrounds the central segment such that the first opening is substantially coplanar with the second opening. A laminar flow of air is created through the conduit in a direction away from the second opening and toward the first opening. The air flow is filtered through a HEPA filter supported within the conduit.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1987Date of Patent: June 7, 1988Assignee: RCA Licensing CorporationInventors: Glenn W. Brunner, Samuel Pearlman, Randall E. McCoy, Jordan R. Nelson
