    Abstract: A method is disclosed for ultrasonically detecting and measuring oxide scale on the inner cylindrical surface of a fluid containing boiler tube, in situ, within a boiler. An ultrasonic pulse is directed into the tube. The time of flight of the ultrasonic pulse within the scale is determined. The determined time is correlated to the thickness of the scale.
