  • Patent number: 5949202
Abstract: A distributed power supply for a motor controller including electronic control circuits for controlling IGBT power transistor stages. The power supplies for the power transistors and gate drivers therefor are isolated from the power supplies for the electronic control circuits. Each of the gate drivers for the IGBT power transistor is supplied through a separate floating supply. Power supplies for the digital components and the analog components have separate ground return paths and are tied together at the supplies.

Date of Patent: September 7, 1999
    Assignee: Kollmoregen Corporation

  • Patent number: 5949359
Abstract: A variable reluctance resolver wherein the sine and cosine values are processed to obtain digital values for position with an accuracy similar to that of a conventional resolver. The variable reluctance resolver is driven at a constant speed and the incremental digital values are recorded and processed to extract the fundamental through a Fourier transform. The Fourier transform of the fundamental is compared to the original values from the variable reluctance resolver to provide a look up table of correction values.

  • Patent number: 5912638
Abstract: A resolver to digital converter wherein the data from the resolver is processed according to octants which provide the most significant three bits indicating shaft position. The sine and cosine values from the resolver are further processed according to the octant with the smaller value being divided by the larger value to derive a tangent value in the range of zero to one. A look up table can then be used to provide a linear position indication from the tangent values which are then added to the octant value to obtain the shaft position indication.

  • Patent number: 5736916
Abstract: A pulse transformer for use in a high frequency motor controller to isolate the electronic control stages from the power stages in a motor controller. The primary and secondary windings are wound on a common ferrite core and spaced apart from one another. The wire size used for the windings is relatively small (gauge 37 or less). Each of the windings has between 10 and 13 turns. The interwinding capacitance must be below 5 picofarads, preferably below 1 picofarad, and most preferably below 0.2 picofarads.

  • Patent number: 5625265
Abstract: A motor controller operable at a PWM (pulse width modulated) repetition rate above 6,000 Hz. A special saturable transformer with an interwinding capacitance of less than 5 picofarads is used to isolate the electronic control circuits from the power stage. PWM pulses are supplied to the saturable transformer such that the leading and trailing edges of the pulses pass through to a Schmitt trigger circuit which reconstructs the original pulse.
