Publication number: 20140294165Abstract: A teleconferencing system for voice and data provides interconnections among user sites via a central station. User stations at user sites each alternate operation between a data mode connecting a user computer and modem to a user telephone communication path and a voice mode connecting a telephony circuit to the communication path. The teleconferencing system is adapted for conducting a voice conference over standard telephone lines while allowing simultaneous viewing of data objects such as slides, graphs, or text. A host computer connected to the central station serves as a central repository for storage and retrieval of data objects for use in teleconferences.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 16, 2014Publication date: October 2, 2014Applicant: Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Keith A. Raniere, Thomas A. Delaney, Steven Danzig, Saul Miodownik

Publication number: 20100001838Abstract: Techniques for associating assets of a medical care facility include receiving a first data flow that indicates a first unique identifier for a first radio frequency identification (RFID) tag and receiving a second data flow that indicates a second unique identifier for a second RFID tag. Also received is database data that associates the first unique identifier with a first asset and associates the second unique identifier with a different second asset. It is determined whether a position of the first RFID tag is within operative distance of a position of the second RFID tag based on the first data flow and the second data flow and the associated first asset and second asset. If it is determined that the position of the first RFID tag is within operative distance of the position of the second RFID tag, then the first asset is automatically associated with the second asset.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2007Publication date: January 7, 2010Applicant: Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer ResearchInventors: Saul Miodownik, Paul Frisch, Paul Booth

Publication number: 20060089539Abstract: Techniques for integrating messages from a medical care devices used to monitor or treat a patient include receiving association data. The association data indicates an association between a particular patient and one portable communication device assigned to one primary medical caregiver. The association data also indicates multiple associations between the patient and corresponding medical data generators. A medical data generator provides medical data to support an alert that indicates attention is desired from a medical caregiver. The medical data generators direct their data to diverse destinations. If an alert is issued based on any of the medical data generators, the portable communication device is determined based on the alert and the association data, a caregiver message is generated based on the alert, and the caregiver message is sent to the portable communication device. These techniques allow alerts from multiple medical devices to be integrated onto a single portable communication device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2004Publication date: April 27, 2006Inventors: Saul Miodownik, Paul Frisch, Paul Booth, Brian Stone

Patent number: 5338937Abstract: A radiation imaging device of the type employing a scintillator and a position-sensitive photomultiplier tube eliminates or reduces edge effects and thereby increases the linear field of view by compensating for nonlinearities which distort an image close to the edge. Specifically, (1) a light guide is placed about the edge of the scintillator to channel light that would otherwise be reflected from the edge of scintillator to a light absorbing material so that edge reflected light is not detected by the position-sensitive photomultiplier tube and (2) variable resistors are employed to compensate for distortions in the image caused by current leakage along the edge of the position-sensitive photomultiplier tube.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1993Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer ResearchInventors: Farhad Daghighian, Saul Miodownik, Peter Shenderov, Behzad Eshaghian
