  • Publication number: 20220273658
Abstract: Small molecule liver X receptor (LXR) modulators, and derivatives thereof, exhibit activity against tumor cells and less or no activity against dividing non-malignant cells, target the liver X receptor and disrupt key metabolic pathways preferred by cancer cells, and activate a newly discovered cell death mechanism which is distinct from the cell death induced by chemotherapeutic agents. These compounds can thus be a less toxic alternative to chemotherapy and can be used in combination with chemotherapy to increase efficacy and decrease the likelihood of cancer cells developing resistance. Moreover, they can be used as second-line treatments when chemotherapies are ineffective or if cancer cells develop resistance over time.

  • Patent number: 10335449
Abstract: The present disclosure describes peptide inhibitors of Rho-associtated-kinase (ROCK) and their use in treating disorders including heart failure, the leading cause of combined morbidity and mortality in the United States. An inhibitory polypeptide blocks ROCK1 activity in the presence of 1 mM ATP. The binding epitope on ROCK1 was mapped using chemical cross-linking to the Activation Loop, a novel locus identifying a new class of inhibitory drugs. The peptides described will be useful against a number of important diseases such as heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, arterial hypertension, glaucoma management, insulin resistance, kidney disease, hemolytic anemia, stroke, ischemia reperfusion injury, or acute myeloid leukemia.

  • Patent number: 10293022
Abstract: The inventors have identified how the assembly of the 5-HT2cR with another protein (phosphatase and tensin homologue; PTEN) controls cellular function, and have synthesized a new peptide that interrupts the 5-HT2cR:PTEN complex to result in enhanced 5-HT2cR function.

  • Patent number: 9611292
Abstract: The 5-HT 2C receptor is implicated in feeding, obesity, palatable food reward, metabolic disorders, drug addiction, anxiety, stress sensitivity, and depression. Embodiments of the invention are directed to modulation of the 5-HT 2cR. Certain aspects are directed to therapies for the above referenced conditions. In certain aspects, therapeutic agents are identified that disrupt the 5-HT2cR:PTEN complex activating 5-HT2CR signaling. In certain aspects the complex is disrupted by a disrupter. The disrupter can be a peptide that displaces PTEN from the 5-HT 2cR:PTEN complex or inhibits the formation of the complex.

  • Patent number: 9091731
Abstract: A system and method are provided for using a class H amplifier in a tester for testing protective relaying equipment, particularly useful in conducting end to end testing. The class H amplifier is configured to provide separation between the amplifier and the power supply of the tester using a DSP which also offers flexibility for programming algorithms to realize efficiencies in matching the waveform to the output rail. End to end testing is also improved by including expected results for the test case used by the tester to enable the tester to determine how close the results are to what is expected. This offers time savings and is less prone to error in that the expected results can be predetermined by a qualified/experienced professional.

  • Publication number: 20100241902
Abstract: A system and method are provided that avoid the need to tether a computer to a test set in order to run a test sequence on a protective relay and obtain result data. A decoupling can be performed by generating command files that can be placed in storage media or provided to the test set separately rather than sending timed commands directly from the computer to the test set. Similarly, a result file generator on the test set can obtain test results and generate a result file that can be placed in such storage media or transported separately to be used by a reporting tool on the computer in the normal fashion. It has been found that various ways of decoupling are possible, using any suitable transport scheme including physical and electronic, both wired and wireless.

  • Patent number: 5916281
Abstract: A lockset is provided for use in a door. The lockset includes a lock core, a body mounted on the door, a door handle mounted on the body, a locking-unlocking mechanism, and a throw member mounted for rotation with the lock core. The locking-unlocking mechanism locks and unlocks the lockset in response to rotation of the key within the lock core. The throw member includes an outer perimeter edge, a blade extending toward the locking-unlocking mechanism, and a channel extending around the outer perimeter edge. The body also includes a pin that extends into the channel so that when a key is rotated in the lock core, the lock core and throw member rotate relative to the pin. This rotation causes the throw member to move from an inactive position disengaged from the locking-unlocking mechanism to an active position where the blade engages the locking-unlocking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5794472
Abstract: A cylindrical lock is provided for use in a door containing a latch bolt supported for movement between an extended door-latching position and a retracted door-unlatching position. The door further includes a latch bolt retractor assembly connected to the latch bolt and movable relative to the door to move the latch bolt between the extended door-latching position and the retracted door-unlatching position. The cylindrical lock includes a hub, a door handle, a spindle, and a locking lug. The hub is adapted to mount in a fixed position on the door and is formed to include a first hub slot and a second hub slot communicating with the first hub slot. The door handle is mounted for rotation relative the hub. The spindle is coupled to the door handle and is formed to include a spindle slot defined by spaced-apart driving surfaces. The locking lug is movable between a first position fixing the spindle and hub together and a second position uncoupling the spindle and hub.

  • Patent number: 5590555
Abstract: A lockset chassis assembly is provided for use with a door latch. The lockset chassis assembly includes a rotatable spindle, a chassis supporting the rotatable spindle, a rose engaging the chassis at a junction therebetween and defining a space between the rose and the chassis at the junction, and a locking pin. The chassis includes an inner hub and an outer hub separated from the inner hub. The outer hub includes a threaded outer surface and an outer hub keyway interrupting the threaded outer surface. The locking pin engages the inner hub, lies in the outer hub keyway, and engages the rose and the chassis in the space at the junction between the rose and the chassis.
