  • Publication number: 20210040877
Abstract: The present disclosure provides an engine cooling system for controlling the temperature of an engine of a motor vehicle. The system includes an engine cooling circuit for circulating a coolant to transfer heat from the engine to an airflow. An electric water pump is configured to circulate the coolant through the circuit at a maximum electric pump flow rate, and a mechanical water pump is configured to circulate the coolant through the circuit at a maximum mechanical pump flow rate that is higher than the maximum electric pump flow rate. The circuit further includes a selector valve configured to fluidly connect one of the electric water pump and the mechanical water pump to the engine. An engine control module generates a valve signal for actuating the selector valve to fluidly connect one of the electric water pump and the mechanical water pump to the engine.

  • Patent number: 10247067
Abstract: An auxiliary oil circuit for a heat-generating assembly having a main oil sump and a fluid pump for controlling oil flow from the sump includes a first fluid passage in communication with the pump. The circuit additionally includes a remote reservoir for receiving sump oil via the first passage and an orifice in the first passage for controlling an amount of sump oil transferred to the reservoir. The circuit additionally includes an active first valve in the first fluid passage for selectively opening and closing communication between the sump and the reservoir. The circuit also includes a second fluid passage in communication with the auxiliary reservoir for returning the oil from the reservoir to the sump. Furthermore, the circuit includes an active second valve arranged in the second passage for selectively opening and closing communication between the reservoir and the sump.

  • Patent number: 7191684
Abstract: A rotate mechanism includes a fixed frame unit, a rotating frame unit, a first bearing, and a prime mover. The rotating frame unit is rotatably coupled to the fixed frame unit and rotates about an axis. The rotating frame unit includes a first surface for receiving a machine tool element to be rotated. The first bearing is configured to exert an axially outward force on the rotating frame unit. The first bearing rotates about an axis that extends in substantially perpendicular to an axis of rotation of the rotating frame unit. The first bearing is axially movable within a cavity of at least one of the rotating frame unit and the fixed frame unit. The prime mover is coupled to the rotating frame unit to effectuate rotational movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 7178786
Abstract: A valve stem construction for a manipulable valve member used to control fluid flow through a valve. The valve stem extends externally of the valve housing for engagement by a valve handle used to manipulate the valve member between open and closed positions. The valve is formed with a plurality of circumferentially spaced concave splines extending longitudinally on the outer surface of the valve stem. The splines are spaced so as to maximize transmission of rotational torque while minimizing flexure and twisting of the valve stem. The spacing and configuration of the individual splines also ensure a strong mating fit with the valve handle.

  • Patent number: 5195472
Abstract: A cylinder head for supporting and lubricating hydraulic valve lifters comprises a head member having a deck face adapted for mating with an engine block. The head member has a bottom face which is approximately perpendicular to the deck face. A plurality of sockets are formed in the head member and are adapted to receive a hydraulic valve lifter. A one-way gallery is formed in the head member above the sockets. The one-way gallery is parallel to a horizontal plane of the engine block when the head member is mated therewith. The one-way gallery is adapted to communicate with the valve lifters. A one-way passage is formed in the head member. The one-way passage has a gallery end which communicates with the one-way gallery and a supply end which is above the gallery end. A supply passage is formed in the head member. The supply passage has one end which communicates with the supply end and another end which communicates with a block port in the mating face. The block port is below the one-way gallery.
