  • Patent number: 6501345
Abstract: A filter, duplexer, and a communications device have significantly reduced power loss due to the edge effect, and the coupling structure between a resonator and an input or output terminal does not negatively affect the reduction of power loss. A plurality of resonators is provided on a dielectric substrate. Each of the resonators is constituted of a multiple spiral transmission line assembly. At the centers of the multiple spiral transmission assemblies at the input end and the output end, respectively, there are formed coupling pads which are capacitively coupled to associated multiple transmission line assemblies.

  • Patent number: 6486754
Abstract: A resonator can provide good loss characteristics by effectively suppressing power losses due to an edge effect. In addition, a filter, a duplexer, and a communication device incorporating the resonator are formed. In the resonator, a plurality of spiral lines are disposed on a surface of a dielectric substrate in such a manner that the inner and outer ends of the lines are aligned respectively along an inner periphery and an outer periphery which are centered around a central point on the substrate so that the lines do not cross each other. With this arrangement, the edge effect in the spiral lines is substantially canceled, by which power losses due to the edge effect can be effectively suppressed.

  • Publication number: 20020039055
Abstract: A filter and a duplexer in which power loss due to the edge effect in resonator lines, is very effectively suppressed, which allow more reduction in overall size to be achieved, and which have desired filter characteristics, and a communication device including either or both of the filter and the duplexer. Three multiple spiral resonator stages are constructed by disposing three multiple spiral lines on the top surface of a dielectric substrate, and forming a ground electrode on the bottom surface thereof. If the first stage is set to be a right-handed spiral resonator, and the second and third stages are set to be left-handed spiral resonators, an attenuation pole is thereby created on the higher frequency side of a pass band.

  • Publication number: 20020024320
Abstract: A combination battery includes a plurality of cells connected together in series. A switching element operates for selectively blocking and unblocking a power feed path between the combination battery and a load. The switching element is changed to its on state when receiving a drive voltage. When a starting switch is moved to its on position, a drive circuit is connected with at least one cell among the cells in the combination battery and uses the at least one cell as a power source to generate the drive voltage applied to the switching element. A power supply circuit receives an output voltage from the combination battery and starts to operate when the switching element is changed to its on state. At a later moment, a power source for setting the switching element in its on state is changed from the at least one cell to the power supply circuit.

  • Publication number: 20020000893
Abstract: A resonator, a filter, and a duplexer are provided which are capable of very effectively suppressing the power loss caused by the edge effect, and which allow a great reduction in the overall size to be achieved. Also, a communication device including the above-mentioned filter or duplexer is provided. A ground electrode is formed over the bottom surface of a dielectric substrate, and a multiple spiral line pattern is formed on the top surface thereof. A radial line pattern is further formed on this surface with an insulation layer interposed therebetween. By thus disposing the radial pattern adjacently to the multiple spiral resonator constituted of the above-mentioned multiple spiral line, an electrostatic capacitance is added to the multiple spiral resonator. This reduces the occupation area of the resonator on the substrate, and improves the loss reduction effect.

  • Patent number: 6148221
Abstract: A plurality of TEM mode transmission lines (L2-L5) are structured by pairs of thin film conductors (21 and 22, 22 and 23, 23 and 24, and 24 and 25) which sandwich thin film dielectrics (31 to 34) by alternately stacking the thin film conductor (21 to 25) and the thin film dielectric (31 to 34). The phase velocities of TEM mode waves which are propagated at least by two of the transmission lines (L2 to L5) are substantially equal to each other. The thickness of each of the thin film conductors (21 to 25) is smaller than the skin depth of the frequency used so that the electromagnetic fields of at least two TEM mode transmission lines among the TEM mode transmission lines (L2 to L5) are coupled to each other. In this way, the skin depth can be increased effectively. The conductor loss and the surface resistance can be reduced significantly as compared to those of the conventional electrode. By use of this electrode, a transmission line, a resonator, a filter, and a high frequency device are structured.

  • Patent number: 6066598
Abstract: A superconductor layer is formed on one side of a dielectric substrate, and with this superconductor layer as a conductor layer of the bottommost layer, superconductor layers and dielectric layers are alternately laminated with each other. Thus, a superconducting multilayer electrode is provided which is laminated with at least one TEM mode transmission line which is constituted of a pair of superconductor layers with a dielectric layer sandwiched in between, and the superconductor layer and the dielectric layer have film thicknesses which are set so that the maximum value of the current density flowing through each superconductor layer becomes the same. The resistance to electric power of the superconducting multilayer electrode is proportional to the number of laminated layers.

  • Patent number: 6016091
Abstract: A dielectric resonator device has a dielectric member. Electrodes are respectively formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the dielectric member. The dielectric resonator device resonates at a mode having electric field components in a direction perpendicular to the upper and lower surface of the dielectric member. The electrodes formed on the dielectric member are each formed of a thin film multi layered electrode produced by alternately laminating thin film electrode layers and thin film dielectric layers. Each thin film dielectric layer which is sandwiched between the thin film multi layered electrode layers serves as a dielectric resonator. Accordingly, the thin film multi layered electrode acts as a laminated structure of a plurality of dielectric resonators. Thus, a current distributes over the plurality of thin film electrode layers, thereby alleviating the current concentration on the surface of the dielectric member. As a consequence, conduction losses of the overall resonator unit are reduced.
