  • Publication number: 20110282968
Abstract: An approach is provided for coordinating media presentation on devices via an information space. In response to a request for presentation of media content, a media provision coordinating application retrieves from an information space raw media content corresponding to the request. The media provision coordinating application determines one or more first devices for pre-processing the raw media content and one or more second devices for presenting pre-processed media content based upon respective technical capabilities and availabilities of the first devices, the second devices, or a combination thereof, the first and second devices are connected to the information space.

  • Patent number: 7991880
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for effectuating a basis for implementing services capable of self-creation, self-evolution and/or substantive personalization without direct intervention from, e.g., a service provider. The resulting services are flexible and user-friendly, as a basic set of service primitives can be updated and extended at any point. Additionally, new and/or improved service functionality that is adapted to a user's behavior is done so in a non-intrusive manner. Additionally, implementation of service families, meta-service and readdressing as described above in accordance with various embodiments allows for the maximization of, e.g., a community training effect, when some interesting service finding of one community user can be easily shared and utilized by other users. Moreover, the systems and methods described herein for implementing/providing a basis for a flexible architecture minimizes resource consumption on the client side.

  • Patent number: 7917471
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for obtaining content objects in a communication system. In the method is obtained at least one search criterion at a first node. At least one entity entry is determined from an entity contact information list. An identity of a second network node is determined from the entity entry. An address is determined for the second network node using the identity. A search is submitted to the second network node. The search criteria are matched to a number of metadata objects to obtain result metadata objects, from which is provided at least a content object identifier to the first network node. The first network node obtaining a content object using said content object identifier from a third network node to the first network node.

  • Publication number: 20110072003
Abstract: An approach is provided for efficiently searching information in an information space utilizing information signatures. A signature application receives queries over information sources. The signature application, for each of the queries, generates a polynomial by defining the each query against the information sources as input parameters in polynomial form. The signature application provides irreducible polynomials over a finite field of a degree of orthogonality by factoring polynomials generated from the queries. The signature application adjusts the degree of orthogonality of the irreducible polynomials to provide adjusted irreducible polynomials, each of which is a signature and corresponds to a signature fragment, such that the signature fragments have overlapping portions. The signature application causes at least in part storage of the signatures or the signature fragments in a signature domain over an information space.

  • Publication number: 20110060797
Abstract: An approach is provided for selective sharing of semantic information sets in a smart space interoperable across platforms, devices, and equipment. A personal smart space application creates a personal information space for a user, wherein the personal information space includes a plurality of semantic information sets. Thereafter, the personal smart space application receives a request for selective sharing of the semantic information sets, and merges, in response to the request, a projection of the selected semantic information sets into a shared information space.

  • Publication number: 20110055351
Abstract: An approach is provided for retrieving ordered content via a service endpoint. A radio frequency memory tag is preloaded with content managed by a service platform. A request is generated for content stored on the radio frequency memory tag of an endpoint associated with the service platform. Transmission of the request to the endpoint is initiated. The request for the content is received from a user equipment. Transmission of the content is initiated from the memory tag to the user equipment. The user equipment receives the content from the memory tag in response to the request.

  • Patent number: 7885261
Abstract: Packet classification and routing in a data communication network with static routing procedure, wherein the routing is performed without using a routing table. First values for each common address bit of end service points adjacent to a switch as a response to a local subnet mask of the switch are defined. Then the packet flows from the current switch to the adjacent switches are forwarded in response to a value of differentiation bits. Unprocessed packets are forwarded to the main adjacent switch according to the main adjacent switch definition. Unforwarded are processed packets locally as exceptions.

  • Publication number: 20110029985
Abstract: An approach is provided for coordination resource access. A resource access coordinating application determines the conflict condition among a plurality of queries from a respective plurality of applications for access to an identical resource in an information space. The resource access coordinating application then orders the queries based on one or more characteristics (e.g., read, write, update, delete, read-only, read-update, write-update, write-add, write-add, etc.) of the queries irrespective of the applications. Thereafter, the resource access coordinating application selects one of the queries based on the order.

  • Publication number: 20100095193
Abstract: In a packet transmission system that uses checksums, partial checksum calculations may be performed during periods of processor underutilization while the data is awaiting final output processing for transport. A system wide checksum service process may coordinate checksum calculations across multiple network protocol layers. The checksum calculations for the buffered data may be performed according to a priority assigned to the buffered data. For example, buffered data whose transmission is imminent may have a higher priority than buffered data that will be transmitted at a later time. Applications that generate data for transmission may register those portions with the service for checksum calculation. To simplify the process, a metadata structure may be created for the data portion, and used to manage the checksum calculations.

  • Patent number: 7502371
Abstract: A method distributes connection admission control. Traffic flows are distributed locally at network nodes based on determined path weights and dynamic link costs. A traffic source node is sent a back-off signal if a distributing node becomes congested. A received request to admit a new traffic flow to the communications network is admitted if the node receiving the request has not received a back-off signal, and is rejected if the node receiving the request has received a back-off signal and fails to redistribute its traffic flows. Distributed connection admission control is allowed in which only local events need to be monitored to decide whether to admit a new traffic flow or not.
