  • Publication number: 20180376515
Abstract: A base station may obtain channel usage information identifying usage of one or more unlicensed radio frequency (RF) spectrum bands. The base station may select a selected band, of the one or more unlicensed RF spectrum bands, based on the channel usage information. The base station may select one or more RF channels, of multiple RF channels included in the selected band, based on a congestion value of the selected band. The congestion value may be determined based on values of the channel usage information corresponding to the selected band. The selected RF channel may include an impaired RF channel that may not permit full bandwidth utilization due to constraints. The base station may communicate with user equipment via the one or more RF channels of the selected band.

  • Publication number: 20180376465
Abstract: A small cell device may communicate with a user device (e.g., a smartphone, a tablet computer, etc.) via a range extender device that extends the effective range of the small cell device to the user device. The small cell device, the range extender device, and the user device may communicate with one another using channels of a licensed spectrum (e.g., traditional LTE channels). The range extender device may determine channel conditions corresponding to an unlicensed spectrum (e.g., 5 Gigahertz (GHz) Spectrum) and communicate the channel conditions to the small cell device. Based on the channel conditions, the small cell device and the range extender device may select downlink-only channels of the unlicensed spectrum and cause the downlink capabilities of the channels of the unlicensed spectrum to be augmented by the downlink capabilities of the downlink-only channels of the unlicensed spectrum.

  • Patent number: 10149229
Abstract: Techniques described herein may allow for the selective enabling and/or disabling of shared access points (“SAPs”). The selective enabling and/or disabling may occur based on the analysis of key performance indicators (“KPIs”) associated with the SAPs. The selective enabling and/or disabling may cause the SAPs to cease (or continue) broadcasting their availability for User Equipment (“UEs”) of a particular wireless provider, decline (or accept) bearer requests for UEs of the particular wireless provider, or terminate existing connections with UEs of the particular wireless provider. The selective enabling and/or disabling may be performed for certain applications or Quality of Service (“QoS”) levels. The selective enabling and/or disabling may be performed proactively (e.g., without necessarily determining that the performance for a given SAP has not met a threshold performance), based on historical trends.

  • Publication number: 20180310907
Abstract: A computer system that provides a simulated 2D fluoroscopy image is described. During operation, the computer system may generate the simulated 2D fluoroscopy image based on data in a predetermined 3D image associated with an individual's body. For example, generating the simulated 2D fluoroscopy image may involve a forward projection. Moreover, the forward projection may involve calculating accumulated absorption corresponding to density along X-ray lines through pixels in the predetermined 3D image. Then, the computer system may provide the simulated 2D fluoroscopy image with a 3D context associated with a predefined cut plane in the individual's body. Note that the providing may involve displaying, on a display, the simulated 2D fluoroscopy image with the 3D context.

  • Patent number: 10078885
Abstract: During an analysis technique, a three-dimensional (3D) image of a portion of an individual is transformed to facilitate accurate determination of detailed annotation of an anatomical structure (such as: specifying the size of the anatomical structure based on annotation markers, an orientation of the anatomical structure, a direction of the anatomical structure and/or a location of the anatomical structure). In particular, in response to receiving information specifying a two-dimensional (2D) plane having an angular position in the 3D image, the 3D image is translated and rotated from an initial position and orientation so that the 2D plane is presented in an orientation parallel to a reference 2D plane of a display. Then, after information specifying the detailed annotation in the 2D plane is received, the 3D image is translated and rotated back to the initial position and orientation.

  • Publication number: 20180132078
Abstract: A base station may include logic configured to determine system throughput values for a plurality of modulation and coding schemes based on data throughput values and based on a number of user equipment (UE) devices serviced by the base station; determine a modulation and coding scheme, of the plurality of coding schemes, that is associated with a highest system throughput; and determine radio frequency (RF) conditions associated with the base station. The logic may further be configured to define a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) area based on the determined RF conditions and the selected modulation and coding scheme and provide an update to the UE devices serviced by the base station, wherein UE devices located within the defined MBMS area are sent the update using MBMS and UE devices located outside the defined MBMS area are sent the update using unicast.

  • Publication number: 20180132288
Abstract: A device may receive information related to a channel. The information may indicate whether a measurement related to the channel satisfies a threshold. The threshold may be related to an availability of the channel. The device may determine an aggregation mode to use to communicate via the channel. The device may determine a set of available channels based on determining whether the measurement satisfies the threshold. The device may determine an order related to the set of available channels based on determining the set of available channels. The order may be based on the availability of the set of available channels. The device may select a channel from the set of available channels based on the order related to the set of available channels. The device may exchange communications via the channel based on selecting the channel.

  • Patent number: 9956054
Abstract: A computer system that provides situational awareness and feedback during a surgical procedure is described. During operation, the computer system generates stereoscopic images at a first 3-dimensional (3D) location in an individual, where the stereoscopic images include image parallax and are based on data having a discrete spatial resolution and a predefined surgical plan for the individual. Then, the computer system provides the stereoscopic images to a display. When a surgical tool is advanced, location information of the surgical tool is updated in the stereoscopic images displayed are updated. Alternatively or additionally, When location information indicates a deviation from the predefined surgical plan during the surgical procedure, the computer system generates revised stereoscopic images that indicate: the deviation has occurred an update to the predefined surgical plan and/or how to return to the predefined surgical plan.

  • Patent number: 9942896
Abstract: A base station may allocate resources of an unlicensed radio frequency (RF) spectrum band among multiple operator networks, associated with different network operators, that use different licensed RF spectrum bands. The base station may receive downlink traffic destined for a user equipment. The base station may identify an operator network, of the multiple operator networks, associated with the user equipment. The base station may provide the downlink traffic to the user equipment using one or more unlicensed RF channels of the unlicensed RF spectrum band based on identifying the operator network and based on allocating the resources of the unlicensed RF spectrum band among the multiple operator networks.

  • Patent number: 9848186
Abstract: A computer system that provides stereoscopic images is described. During operation, the computer system generates the stereoscopic images at a location corresponding to a viewing plane based on data having a discrete spatial resolution, where the stereoscopic images include image parallax. Then, the computer system scales objects depicted in the stereoscopic images so that depth acuity associated with the image parallax is increased, where the scaling is based on the spatial resolution and a viewing geometry associated with a display. For example, the viewing geometry may include a distance from an individual that views the stereoscopic images on the display and the display. Alternatively, the viewing geometry may include a focal point of the individual. Next, the computer system provides the resulting stereoscopic images to the display. In this way, the computer system may optimize the depth acuity for data having discrete sampling.

  • Patent number: 9830700
Abstract: A computer system that segments a colon for a computed tomography colonography (CTC) is described. During operation, the computer system accesses imaging data having a spatial resolution. Then, the computer system identifies the colon lumen based on probabilities for different tissue classes in the imaging data. Moreover, the computer system segments the colon into subsegments based on an articulated object model that fits a tortuosity of the colon along a centerline of the colon, where the articulated object model includes values of an orthonormal basis set, curvature and torsion along the centerline, and where boundaries between subsegments are based on the curvature and the torsion. For example, a given boundary between a pair of subsegments may corresponds to or may be related to a minimum value of the curvature and a maximum value of the torsion over a length of the colon.
