  • Patent number: 11832676
Abstract: A helmet with an automatic vent that is normally open and responds to external air pressure to close. The vent is pivotally mounted to the body of the helmet to move between a closed position, wherein the vent does not permit any flow of air into the cavity of the body, and an open position, wherein the vent allows the flow of air into the cavity of the body. A spring provides a biasing force that urges the vent into the open position. The biasing force provided by the spring is overcome by air pressure on the vent when the helmet is in motion so that the vent closes. The vent may be a windshield that closes when the user travels at a predetermined velocity and opens when the user is stationary, thereby avoiding the need for the user to manually open and close the vent.

  • Patent number: 8345846
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a telephony communication interface device. The device includes a communication transceiver configured to communicate with a remote system via a predetermined communication channel. A control circuit is coupled to the communication transceiver. The control circuit is configured to determine a device operating mode status based on communication transceiver activity. The device operating mode status includes a telephonic communications mode and a remote system communications mode. An interface circuit is coupled to at least one telephone set. The interface circuit is configured to propagate voice telephony signals between the at least one telephone set and a telephony network in a telephonic communications mode and propagate voice intercom signals between the at least one telephone set and the communication transceiver in the remote system communications mode.

  • Patent number: 8325040
Abstract: Upon detecting (101) (via an animate object detector (506)) an animate object, these teachings provide for automatically and responsively transmitting (102) a remote light control signal and also selectively controlling (103) local lighting (505). This can comprise temporarily switching the local lighting to a higher power mode of operation (such as a fully-on mode of operation) from a lower power mode of operation (such as a fully-off mode of operation). These teachings will further accommodate determining (301) a relatively closeness of the animate object to the remote control. When the detected animate object is more than predetermined distance from the remote control, the local lighting can remain in the lower power mode of operation. When the detected animate object, however, is within that predetermined distance from the remote control, then the aforementioned step of switching the local lighting to the higher power mode of operation can be undertaken as described.

  • Publication number: 20120133485
Abstract: A gate control and communication system of the invention including a base unit located within a premises, a gate receiver unit positioned next to a remotely located gate, and a gate control unit located next to the gate. The base unit provides for voice communications with an individual at the gate and for issuing of commands to control the gate. The gate receiver unit includes a switching device which, in response to commands directs the opening and closing of the gate. The gate control unit includes a call button for initiating voice communication with the base unit and a keypad for entering an identification code or password. The information stored in an existing gate control unit may be cloned into an additional or replacement gate control unit by entering an appropriate identification code and command while positioning the units in range of each other.

  • Patent number: 8026946
Abstract: A gate access system is described where the system includes an imaging system configured to capture an image of an object disposed in a predetermined field of view in response to an image capture signal. The imaging system is also configured to associate time/date data with the image. The time/date data represents a time and a date when the image was captured. At least one gate access panel device is disposed in the field of view and coupled to the imaging system. The at least one gate access panel device is configured to transmit the image capture signal in response to being actuated. A gate transceiver is coupled to the imaging system. The transceiver is configured to transmit the image and the time/date data via a wireless communication channel.

  • Publication number: 20110096817
Abstract: A wireless intercom having a microcontroller that is programmed to place the intercom into a power saving sleep mode unless actively receiving or transmitting signals. The microcontroller of the intercom is interconnected to a transceiver for sending and receiving digital data packets, and to a codec for converting the digital packets to analog sound signals, and vice versa. The intercom receives digital transmission of data over a first channel and then corrects any errors in the digital data using a retransmission of the digital data over a second channel that is sufficiently spaced apart from the first channel to avoid the possibility of interference affecting both the first and second channels.

  • Publication number: 20090290699
Abstract: A telephone seizure apparatus (300) is configured and arranged to incorporate (103) a non-telephonic network caller ID message into a telephonic network caller ID message to thereby provide a resultant pseudo caller ID message. The telephone seizure apparatus can then transmit (104) this pseudo caller ID message to a caller ID interpreter such that the caller ID interpreter can send the non-telephonic network caller ID message to a corresponding caller ID display.

  • Publication number: 20090282740
Abstract: A movable barrier operator (303) that is configured and arranged to selectively control movement of a barrier (302), upon detecting (101) motion of an object, can automatically modify (102) near term automated movement options for that barrier. As but one example in this regard, this can comprise automatically temporarily modifying planned movement of the barrier as was instigated by reception of a remote control command from a wireless remote control transmitter. By one approach, this can further comprise taking such action as function of the relative distance of the object from a given location. This can provide the basis, for example, of automatically modifying near term automated movement options of the barrier when the object is relatively far from the given location and not modifying such options when the object is relatively close to the given location.

  • Publication number: 20090055288
Abstract: A system and method for allowing the owners of digital content files to resell or purchased used content. The system provides for access via the internet 23 and allows a user to upload or download content. To ensure against illicit copying of content, the system preferably includes a verification software package that must be downloaded onto the digital player device from which the user is attempting to resell content. The digital content files uploaded to system are then made available for repurchase by another user. When the digital content file is resold to another user, the digital content file is removed from the available content list so that only the original digital content file is ever transferred from one user to another user.
