    Abstract: The present application describes a backlight device for providing enhanced peripheral illumination of light modulators in display systems. In one embodiment, a display system includes a light modulator, a light diffusing plate, and a backlight device. The backlight device includes light sources that are distributed over an area that is at least equal to or greater than an image display area of the light modulator. In another embodiment, an edge-lit type backlight device is described. The edge-lit type backlight device includes a light guide plate for directing light towards the light modulator. The edge-lit type backlight device further includes light sources that are distributed along a side edge of the light guide plate. The light sources are distributed along a length that is at least equal to or greater than a corresponding length of an image display area of the light modulator.

    Abstract: A light emitting apparatus at least includes a circuit board, several light emitting diodes (LEDs), a first reflective substance, and a diffusion structure. The LEDs, including red (R), green (G), and blue (B) LEDs, are disposed on the circuit board and connected therewith, and the first reflective substance is disposed on the circuit board and having a plurality of cavities for the LEDs. The diffusion structure is disposed on the circuit board and covering the LEDs. The diffusion structure includes several indentations, a transparent main body and several diffusion beads. The indentations are formed on a bottom surface of the diffusion structure and face the LEDs to accommodate the LEDs. The diffusion beads are dispersed in the transparent main body and diffuse light emitted from the LEDs so that light emitted from R/G/B LEDs can be mixed into white light more sufficiently through the diffusion structure.

    Abstract: A light source inside a back light module comprising a red light-emitting diode, a green light-emitting diode, a blue light-emitting diode, a diffusion device, some supporting elements and reflectors is provided. The red, green and blue light-emitting diodes mount on a holder. The diffusion device is set up over the holder. The diffusion device comprises a transparent body and a plurality of fine particles distributed within the transparent body. The supporting elements are positioned between the diffusion device and the holder. The reflectors are attached to the surface on each side of the holder and the diffusion device. Red, green and blue lights from various light-emitting diodes are thoroughly mixed inside the diffusion device to form a uniform white light.
