Abstract: The variations in appearance of an object caused by the variations in a capturing environment are estimated to be modeled, and the object model thus obtained is previously registered in a database. Picture information of an object to be a recognition target is input, and the input picture information is matched with the previously registered object model. The similarity with respect to the registered object model is determined, and the type of the object to be a recognition target is output, which is determined to be most similar among the registered object models. Information of a plurality of pictures captured by changing the relative position and posture of an object is input, and the variations in appearance of an object caused by the possible variations in a capturing environment are estimated to be modeled based on the input information of a plurality of pictures.
Abstract: A window picture (robust window picture) is selected as a model window picture, which is unlikely to be influenced by the variations in an environment and selected irrespective of the variations in an environment of pictures assumed to be inputted in a recognition phase. Alternatively, a window picture (stable window picture) is selected as a model window picture, in which the changes in a feature value are small even though an environment is varied. For example, a tracking window picture group is obtained from a registered picture group in which an environment is continuously varied, by tracking window pictures of a basic registered picture. Then, a static extraction window picture is obtained by extracting window pictures as independent pictures from a series of pictures. Then, a window picture selected both in the tracking window picture group and in the static extraction window picture is set as a robust window picture, and picture matching is conducted using the robust window picture.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus, such as a laser printer, ink jet printer, or a thermal transfer, which comprises a neural network. The apparatus improves image quality by reducing a zigzag included, e.g., in input image data, reducing the circuit size by reducing the number of bits having small weights for an input combination, and concurrently correcting the size of center, left and right picture elements in a predetermined window. The neural network outputs correction data for the size and position of the center dot in a window in response to an input of dot image data in a window or subdot pattern exposure data for the center dot. Additionally, the neural network uses any of the three values, +1, -1 and 0, for the coefficient of input combination for a hidden layer neuron, e.g., after a teacher pattern is learned. Further, the neural network outputs correction data for 3.times.N subblocks of picture elements obtained by dividing blocks of picture elements in the center, left and right of a window.

Abstract: A network is provided in which the direct model of the controlled target is learned, and an actuation amount for realizing a target control amount is generated using this network in accordance with the relaxation algorithm. A recognizing network and a prediction network are provided, wherein the recognition result of the recognizing network is input to the prediction network, and the prediction result of the predicting network is fed back to the recognizing network. Moreover, the predicting network is utilized so as to generate a command relating to the motion in accordance with the relaxation algorithm.
Abstract: A feedback control device at a certain control time, predicts a feedback quantity at the next control time on the basis of a feedback quantity fed back from a controlled object and then performs a control operation based on the predicted feedback quantity. The feedback control device includes a predictive control unit for producing such an actuating signal as to decrease a deviation between the predicted feedback quantity and a desired value. The actuating signal is used to control the controlled object. This eliminates the detrimental effects of time delays associated with the controlled object or the control device, thus ensuring good control. The use of the predictive control unit permits the controlled quantity from the controlled object to converge to the desired value monotonically and quickly.
Abstract: An adaptive equalizer detects characteristics of a transmission line in radio and cable communications and equalizes received signals by using the detected results. Equalization is for not only linear distortion but also nonlinear distortion in accordance with variation of characteristics of the transmission line. The adaptive equalizer includes a characteristic detection unit 11 for detecting real part and imaginary parts of a transfer function by using an output signal corresponding to an input signal of an object to be equalized to compensate for deterioration, for example a transmission line; and an equalizing unit 12 for equalizing an output signal of the object to be equalized 10 in accordance with an unknown input signal by using the detected result of the characteristic detection unit 11.

Abstract: The adaptive input-output apparatus comprises a data holding portion which holds sample data for determining an input/output function, a data selector which uses a predetermined evaluation standard to select valid sample data from said sample data, and an input/output portion which determines an input/output function in accordance with sample data selected by the data selector and outputs on the basis of the input/output function and in accordance with external input. Accordingly, the adaptive input-output apparatus removes unnecessary sample data or uses a predetermined condition to remove sample data having a small evaluation quantity and validity when the input/output function is determined, extracts sample data having a high validity and determines an input/output function using a reduced set of sample data.
