Abstract: A digital magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus comprising a unit for recording high-definition information including video information and audio information, which is based on a first high-definition television scheme, on a recording medium in accordance with a second high-definition television scheme, the first high-definition television scheme having a first data format of a first amount of information smaller than a second amount of information of a second data format of the second high-definition television scheme, the recording unit including a circuit for allocating a recording area corresponding to a difference between the first amount of information and the second amount of information as a free recording area on which any information is selectively recorded, to match the first amount of information with the second amount of information.

Abstract: A video signal recording/reproducing apparatus is provided a rotary drum, recording and reproducing heads. Synchronous separation units separate vertical synchronous signals from input and reproduced signals. A memory stores a time difference which represents an elapsed time between when the recording and reproducing heads pass a given location. The time difference stored in the memory is used to control the rotation of the rotary drum.

Abstract: An equalization apparatus in which a variable equalizer is used to equalize the frequency response of an FM video signal obtained by frequency-modulating a carrier signal with a video signal in which a reference signal of a constant frequency is inserted during a predetermined interval. The equalization apparatus includes a comparator section for making a comparison in amplitude between first upper and lower sidebands in the FM video signal and a control section for controlling the variable equalizer in accordance with an output of the comparator section.

Abstract: A rotary head device for a recording and reproducing apparatus includes a rotary drum and a stationary drum. The rotary drum has a guide surface formed of a conical surface coaxial with the axis of rotation of the rotary drum and wound with a magnetic tape. A head unit is mounted on the rotary drum to be rotatable integrally therewith. The head unit includes two head elements facing each other, for scanning the tape wound on the guide surface, while the tape is being interposed between the head elements, as the rotary drum rotates.

Abstract: A video recording/reproducing apparatus comprises a variable delay circuit for delaying an input video signal which is to be newly recorded on a recording medium and a delay controller for controlling a delay provided by this variable delay circuit. At the time of edit, the delay controller controls the delay so that the phase of a video signal reproduced from a position immediately before an edit entrance point of the recording medium coincides with the phase of an input video signal delayed by the delay circuit.

Abstract: Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus including a rotary head drum and power system. The rotary head drum includes at least a rotary head and preamplifier mounted therein. A rotary transformer communicates information signals to/from the rotary head drum and also transmits high-frequency powers signals for operating the pre-amplifer. The transmission occurs at time periods during which recording and reproducing action cannot be performed.
