  • Publication number: 20060072608
Abstract: The band controller 500 included in the computer system 1000 regularly acquires map information and IF information, etc. from the work server 100, the storage device 200, and the routers 300 and 400, and based on these pieces of information, detects iSCSI sessions for which the communication band is insufficient. When an iSCSI session with insufficient band is detected, the band controller 500 selects another iSCSI session to perform band allocation based on the iSCSI session importance level or the circuit use-rate. The band controller 500 allocates at least part of the communication band of the network route used by the iSCSI session selected in this way to the iSCSI session with insufficient band. The computer system 1000 performs efficient data transfer in storage area networks on which many variations of communication band exist.

  • Publication number: 20060070063
Abstract: A computer system is composed of a plurality of hosts and provides a sole function. The computer system includes software packages over the hosts, those software packages often depending upon each other. The computer system predefines a name to be read by a person and to be usable according to a function of each host computer and describes a dependency among the software packages across the plural hosts through the use of the name. When installing the software package, the computer system corresponds a name that represents a general-purpose function with a real host in the target host, recursively execute a process of automatically determining the destination host to which the software package is to be installed.

  • Publication number: 20050251801
Abstract: In a multilayered system having a hierarchical structure and comprising a plurality of programs, optimal operation parameters for each program are computed. A parameter setting unit 104 sets a parameter 111 for an operation of each program 112. A program start/stop unit 105 starts and stops operation of each program 112. A performance information measurement unit 106 measures performance information of the multilayered system 110. An experiment control unit 102 activates the unit 104, the unit 105, and the unit 106, and executes experiments for operating the multilayered system 110. A next parameter set decision unit. 103 decides a combination of parameters used in a next experiment based on a result of measurement of the performance information. The tuning control unit 101 controls the unit 102 and the unit 103 to repeat the experiment until a condition for termination of the experiment is satisfied.

  • Patent number: 6798757
Abstract: A session for a mobile station is established by finding a route and determining the availability of resources on the route. Thereafter, active per-hop behaviors (PHB's) are distributed to ports along the route while inactive PHB's are distributed to ports near the route. The active and inactive PHB's provide information on how to route, transport, and process packets belonging to a session. In one embodiment, each of the PHB's indicates a priority level, forwarding port number, rules for discarding packets, rules for sending packets, etc. The packets are transported from one port to another in accordance with the active PHB's, thereby guaranteeing a level of quality of service (QoS). When the mobile station moves to a new location and changes the route, inactive PHB's are activated on the new route. This not only allows mobile stations to communicate at a certain level of QoS even after a move, but also minimizes the delay resulting from the move.

  • Publication number: 20040093254
Abstract: A delay factor in a processing in a job system in which an ordered series of jobs are executed in computers assigned to respective jobs, is efficiently detected, and the delay factor is analyzed in detail by associating it with load information of the computers and a network. An administrative manager computer 201 collects a history of executing a job from each job executing computer 202, and refers to a history of each job, one by one from a job executed later to a job executed earlier, until no delay is detected in a job, for judging a cause of delay in each job. Further, with respect to a job in which delay is detected, load statuses of the other jobs or applications in the computer in which said job is in execution are compared with said job and displayed.

  • Patent number: 6735626
Abstract: A network managing method which divides a network to be managed into a plurality of virtual closed area networks, and defines management information on the virtual closed area networks separately in a plurality of logical hierarchies. A virtual LAN/network space defines a connection state among closed area networks, a closed area space defines attribute information on nodes within a closed area network, and a virtual service defines logical arrangement information on nodes in the overall network. The management information is distributively stored in each node and utilized for MAC control. When the configuration of the network is changed due to movements of nodes, an administrator inputs the contents of the change from the manager of each layer, so that the manager communicates with a node containing corresponding management information to instruct the node to update management information.

  • Publication number: 20040064558
Abstract: A system for facilitating optimal utilization of resources across multiple management domains is provided. A system management (SM) server is located at each management domain. The SM server is able to perform a number of functions, such as, managing the resources within the associated management domain and communicating with other SM servers from other management domains. Furthermore, the SM server is able to receive and process a request specifying resources that are needed for a particular job or process. The SM server may receive the request directly from a user or from another SM server. Upon receiving the request, the SM server determines whether the request can be satisfied using resources from its own management domain as well as resources from other management domains, where appropriate.
