    Abstract: A thin display device with a less bezel portion is provided. The display device includes: a first substrate with flexibility, the first substrate having a display section including a first pixel; a second substrate with flexibility; and a sealant which bonds the first substrate and the second substrate together. A curved part is provided inside the sealant in a planar view. When a surface of the first substrate opposing the second substrate is taken as a front surface and a surface opposite to the front surface is taken as a back surface, the back surface inside the curved part and the back surface outside the curved part are overlapped each other in a planar view. The display section is provided in the curved part.

The first light source disposed more closely to a second A side than to the second member to apply a parallel light beam to a second B side. The parallel light beam from the first light source is made incident on the second prism array and incident on the first prism array without passing through a light guide.

The first lens and the second lens are arranged in an optical path of the light. The first and second lenses control the light such that the first lens controls a beam width of the light in the second direction, and the second lens controls a beam width of the light in the third direction, thereby converting the light into parallel light.

The bending member bends a path of the light entering the first substrate from the light source such that the light goes to the second substrate. No polarizing element is provided between the first substrate and the light source, and the bending member is provided on the second surface side of the first substrate.

    Abstract: In a color display device, when using white (W) sub-pixels in addition to subpixels of red (R) and green (G) plus blue (B) without increasing a wiring line number, the per-color pixel number in a unit area decreases so that the image resolution is deteriorated. The area and number of subpixels are adjusted in accordance with the visual sensitivity or luminosity required. Practically, the area of red (R) and blue (B) subpixels which are relatively low in luminosity is set to be about two times greater than the area of green (G) and white (W) subpixels that are relatively high in luminosity while letting the number of green (G) and white (W) subpixels be twice the number of red (R) and blue (B) subpixels. A larger subpixel is configured from a plurality of unit subpixels. A smaller subpixel is formed of a one unit subpixel.
