    Abstract: A guard for a baby carriage in which armrests have fitting holes facing a front surface and a guard has fitting pipes which are insertable into these fitting holes. Each of the fitting pipes has a biased tab which is engageable with a engagement hole at the side of a cylidrical hole at the back of the fitting hole. An opening button, at the bottom of the arm rest, releases the biased tab for the removal of the guard. Planar covers with rear projections are fittable into the fitting holes.

    Abstract: A foldable baby carriage also having a handle bar shiftable from a forward to a reverse position. Within a lower portion on each side of the handle bar is located a slider casing containing two sliders. Each slider holds a bar projecting through the casing of the handle bar to engage either a locking mechanism for the handle bar or a locking mechanism for folding the carriage. The sliders are connected by cable threaded through the interior of the handle bars to two pivoting operation levers at the top of the handle bar. The top of the handle bar is composed of two hard resin parts joined together and supporting the operation levers.

    Abstract: A bicycle ergometer includes an eddy current brake having a rotor assembly including an iron material having a carbon content of 0.12% or less and a silcon content of 0.35% or less, a stator provided in the rotor assembly, a plurality of exciting coils provided on the stator, and a power source for energizing the exciting coils. The ergometer includes an input panel for inputting physical attributes of the user, e.g., age and sex, a pulse sensor for measuring the heart rate of the user at rest and during exercise on the ergometer, an arithmetic control circuit for calculating a training program and heart rate range and for controlling the eddy current brake to present a load to the user which will maintain the user's heart rate in a predetermined range. The method of using the ergometer enables a user to select a physical strength program and a weight reduction program with the selected program reflecting the age, sex, and the present physical condition of the user.

    Abstract: A reclining mechanism for controlling the inclination angle of a back rest in a baby carriage includes a horizontal cross bar connected to two vertical frame bars to form a U-shape. On the back of the backrest, a rack having several horizontal grooves can selectively engage the cross bar. A vertically movable releasing plate has inclined surfaces so that the cross bar can be raised out of the grooves against the biasing force of a pressure plate. The cross bar is connected to a head protection plate which rotates and closes off the top of the back rest when the back rest is reclined by sliding the cross bar down the rack.

    Abstract: A rehabilitation training device and method in which a target heart rate is input, the heart rate is measured and a load in an ergometer operated by the person undergoing rehabilitation is changed accordingly. There are four steps in the training: (1) warm up--the load is increased to have the heart rate linearly approach the target value; (2) automatic--the load is varied to maintain the heart rate at the target; (3) interval--the load is alternated between its average value in the automatic step and a fraction thereof, and (4) cool-down-the load is gradually decreased.

    Abstract: A wheel caster for a baby carriage in which a caster body is rotatable about a holder attached to a leg of the carriage. A stopper pivots in the caster body and is engagable with a vertical groove in the holder to prevent further rotation. The stopper has bosses which fit into vertical grooves in opposed arms of the caster body. Interiorly facing partial collars are formed in the arms beneath the grooves. Tabs on the stopper are engaged beneath the collars so that the stopper can not be removed but can nonetheless be easily assembled.
