  • Patent number: 4603598
Abstract: A shift lever is composed of a lower lever section connected to a control rod of a transmission, and an upper lever section formed with a hollow cylindrical portion and provided with a shift lever knob. The lower lever section is formed with an elongate end portion which is being inserted in the hollow cylindrical portion of the upper lever section. Additionally, lower and upper elastomeric insulators spaced from each other are securely mounted on the elongate end portion of the lower lever section. The lower elastomeric insulator is securely connected to the upper lever section cylindrical portion, while the upper elastomeric insulator is adapted to form a clearance between it and the upper lever section cylindrical portion, thereby avoiding contact between the upper elastomeric insulator and the upper lever section cylindrical portion upon the shift lever being not operated.

  • Patent number: 4597306
Abstract: A fail-safe means is arranged in a transmission shift lever supporting structure for assuring the operative pivotal movement of the shift lever even when the pivotally supported spherical portion of the shift lever is accidentally disengaged from the bearing member in the originally set socket member of the structure. The fail-safe means comprises a stopper plate member stationarily arranged near the socket member. The stopper plate member has therethrough a stopper opening through which one end portion of the shift lever other than the spherical portion passes. The stopper opening is sized smaller than the spherical portion of the shift lever so that upon disengagement of the spherical portion from the bearing member, the spherical portion becomes engaged with the stopper plate member and is prevented from passing through the stopper opening.

  • Patent number: 4507980
Abstract: A remote control gear shift linkage system for a manual transmission comprises a manually operable control lever, a control rod connected between the control lever and the transmission for transmitting a movement of the control lever to the transmission to effect a gear shift, and a support rod supported on a vehicle body for supporting the control lever. In order to avoid unwanted influences of a resonance of the remote control linkage, a concentrated mass member is fastened to a portion of the support rod. The concentrated mass member may take the form of a sleeve fitted over the support rod or a solid bar fitted into the bore of the hollow support rod.
