    Abstract: To provide a connector capable of assuring contact pressure between a terminal and a flat cable without disposing a metal beam supporting an actuator. In the connector of the Present Application, a housing has a convexity-opposing a terminal, and an actuator has a concavity mating with the convexity. An axle disposed in the concavity is inserted into a bearing disposed on the convexity. The actuator has a cam fitting between the convexity and the terminal, and is disposed so as to be able to turn between a sandwiched position at which a flat cable is sandwiched between the cam and the terminal and a release position at which the sandwiching is released.

    Abstract: An earphone connector having a plug provided with a cylindrical inserted portion and a locking claw that protrudes from the side surface of the inserted portion, and a receptacle provided with a fitting indentation that encloses at least the front-end portion of the inserted portion and an insertion opening formed in a fitting surface that communicates with the fitting indentation. The insertion opening includes a cylindrical portion through which the inserted portion passes and an indentation through which the locking claw passes. A spring member in contact with the locking claw is disposed within the fitting indentation, so that when the inserted portion is inserted into the insertion opening, the locking claw passes through the indentation and is enclosed within the interior of the fitting indentation and the inserted portion is rotated. The spring force of the spring member causes a moment that further rotates the inserted portion to act on the locking claw.

The actuator is formed with through openings corresponding to pivot portions of respective terminals, a peripheral edge portion of each of the through hole being formed into a cross-sectionally substantially circular shape shaft portion to engage with the pivot portion. Pushing projecting portions is provided between adjacent shaft portions for pivoting according to pivot motion of the actuator for urging the FPC toward the contacts of the terminals.

An actuator 3 is movably mounted on the housing for movement between an open position allowing insertion of the flat circuit into the slot 15 and a closed position biasing the circuit and its conductors against the contact portions 9A,9B of the terminals. Only some of the terminals comprise retention terminals 2A with portions for gripping the flat circuit and temporarily holding the circuit when the actuator is in its open position. Other of the terminals comprise non-retentive terminals 2B allowing substantially free insertion of the flat circuit into the slot 15.

A flexible elongated strip portion is spaced forwardly of the pressure plate portion and extends longitudinally of the housing to define a preliminary circuit holding means at a mouth of the slot. The pressure plate portion is separated from the elongated strip portion at opposite ends thereof by open areas to, thereby, isolate the flexibility of the elongated strip portion from that of the pressure plate portion.

    Abstract: An electrical connector includes an elongated dielectric housing defining a slot for receiving a flat electrical circuit. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing, with resilient contact portions spaced along the slot. A metal actuator is mounted on the housing for movement between a first position allowing free insertion of the flat electrical circuit into the slot and a second position wherein a pressure plate portion biases the circuit against the resilient contact portions of the terminals. The metal actuator includes a support plate portion backing the resilient contact portions. At least the areas of the support plate portion which engages the contact portions is separated by a thin layer of dielectric material. The actuator, thereby, performs dual functions of biasing the circuit against the resilient contact portions and also providing reinforcing support for the contact portions.

A plug connector is provided for terminating an optical fiber and includes a forward mating end for surrounding a core of the fiber. The plug connector includes a rearward engaging portion for selective interengagement with a second plug connector in parallel with the first plug connector. The forward mating end is insertable into the plug-receiving cavity of the connector housing while the rearward engaging portion is exposed exteriorly of the cavity when the mating end is fully inserted into the cavity. Therefore, the plug connector can be used individually with the connector housing or interengaged with the second plug connector.
