    Abstract: In an automatic transmission control system, the throttle opening of a throttle valve is adjusted in accordance with the acceleration opening of an accelerator pedal, a gear is determined on the basis of the adjusted throttle opening and the rotation speed of the output shaft of an automatic transmission, and the throttle opening is prohibited from following a variation of the acceleration opening during a gear shifting operation. The complexity of the gear shift control is thereby reduced, and the gear shift shock caused when a driver depresses an accelerator pedal during the gear shift is prevented.
