  • Patent number: 5704040
Abstract: A data processing method and apparatus have a resume function and use a password when a power switch of a data processing system is turned on while it is selected that the resume function is to be enabled and the password is to be collated, the data processing system displays a message prompting an operator to input a password when a predetermined password is input from a keyboard or the like, the data processing system executes resume processing, i.e., executes data processing to be continued to data processing executed immediately before the power switch was turned off. When the predetermined password is not input, the resume operation is inhibited, and a content saved by the resume function can be prevented from being disclosed to or destroyed by a third party.

  • Patent number: 5532935
Abstract: An electronic device including a portable computer or a word processor, which is driven by a battery (13). This device has a device component (47) driven by the battery (13), a menu screen for setting an operation time period during which the device is operated by the battery (13), and a power source controller (37) for detecting the remaining capacity of the battery (13) and controlling the amount of power supplied to the device component from the battery on the basis of an operation time period set on the menu screen and the remaining capacity of the battery. When the user sets the operation time period on the menu screen, the power source controller (37) calculates the amount of power to be consumed by the electronic device for the set operation time period, on the basis of the set time period and the remaining capacity of the battery (13).

  • Patent number: 5392438
Abstract: A computer system is provided with both an auto power off mode and a resume mode. In the computer system, the motor off command for an HDD is kept effective from the time when the system is turned on to the time when the HDD is accessed. During the interval, therefore, no power is supplied to the HDD. When the HDD has just been accessed, the motor off command is made ineffective, to thereby supply power to the HDD. When the power supply to the HDD is started, with the system in the resume mode, the CPU permits data processing to be performed from the state immediately before the power supply is stopped.
