Abstract: An office information system has a plurality of work stations connected via a network to mutually exchange electronic mail, each work station including a control information definition unit for defining control information representing what kind of processing can be performed on mails after reception, a processing log memory unit for storing log information of operations which have been performed on received mail, a control unit for guiding a receiver by referring to both the control information and log information, a task tracking instruction unit for inquiring into the processing status of mail, and a task tracking unit for reporting the status in response to such a tracking instruction. The system stores and interprets control information relating to the flow of an OA object on the network, which has been conventionally involved in the memory of an office worker, and guides the office worker to work to be done by the office worker.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for retrieving time-series information so as to permit a user to readily retrieve non-numeric data such as character sequence information. The system provides for a prediction system to take into consideration such non-numeric data in association with retrieval result. In the system, a transition graph of the time-series data is displayed, a prediction result is determined based on determined time-series information, and a representation as to validity of a prediction to actual data is displayed on the graph. When a user enters a desired time point, news and event occurrences at that time point are retrieved from an event database and they are displayed in a designated area. Thus, the non-numeric information, such as news, which has occurred at a prediction miss point can be reflected to a prediction rule during a subsequent prediction.
Abstract: An inference method and an inference apparatus for use with a knowledge base system and knowledge base system supporting method and apparatus using the inference method and apparatus wherein there are employed rules each being comprised of a set of (1) a condition description part including a condition stipulating a plurality of states of a frame representing an object and constituting an object world of at least one pair of a slot and a value thereof and (2) an operation description part stipulating an operation to be executed when the condition is satisfied. For an inference processing, a rule for which a condition of its condition description part is satisfied is executed according to an operation described in the operation description part. A condition judging sequence is specified for satisfaction of a condition for each frame of the condition description part of the rule.
Abstract: A planning support system and process in a workstation having an operator interface, planning process feature, a data file server, and memory feature therein, characterized in storing a planner model having data indicating a plurality of planning actions in the data file server and indicating flow among the planning actions and having process times of the planning actions, and in processes executed by the planning process feature including setting an operator model on the basis of a planning request input through the operator interface, and including determining action of a first planning action to be executed according to the planner model on the basis of the operator model and for determining a second planning action to be executed following the first planning action, and including storing data needed for process of the second planning action into the memory feature until the process of the second planning action is started after process of the first planning action ends on the basis of the planner model.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing a knowledge which divides a knowledge base into at least two knowledge portions, that is, rule groups so as to permit the rule groups to be processed independently of one another, and selects, as a portion to be processed, only a corresponding divided knowledge portion based on characteristics of knowledge required for a knowledge processing in a scheduling problem which includes a large number of planning data to be processed and a plurality of restricting conditions, thereby enabling a highly efficient and high speed scheduling.
Abstract: In an inference method using a rule, a rule condition part network and rule consequence part network are generated, an integral network of both the networks is used for inference. With this information method, the inference is performed at high speed by setting a shortcut arc so as to process the inference along the pattern matchable network portion. Further, use of the integral network of the rule condition and consequence parts enables not only forward and backward inferences but also a bidirectional inference with intimate couple between forward and backward inferences.
Abstract: A method for generating a network to cope with a conditional part or an IF part having a comparison between variable data and a logical sum between comparisons which appear in a Rete network adopted in a production system using the knowledge technology scheme. In association with an intra-node, a candidate node is disposed in another conditional clause referencing a variable, and a data which was previously accepted but which did not satisfy the conditions or a data most likely to pass through the network is stored in the candidate node in advance. For the intra-node in the object processing, the value of the candidate node is loaded for judging the conditions.
Abstract: In an inference machine having a knowledge set portion which stores therein a set of knowledge items such as rules, and an inference portion which interprets the rules for execution; priority level information items which set precedence degrees among the rules within the rule set are stored in a plurality of series with respect to standpoints of users, one series which meets the standpoint of a particular user is selected from among the plurality of stored series of priority level information items, and the rule of the highest precedence degree is selected on the basis of the selected series of priority level information items, with the result that the rule conforming to the standpoint of the particular user is selected and executed.

Abstract: A programming equipment is used for automatically constructing programs by selecting and interconnecting a plurality of previously prepared unit programs in accordance with instructions by an operator. A screen of a display unit is divided into a plurality of partial display areas. A memory has a plurality of unit storage areas, one for each partial display area, for storing unit program names and data flow specifications. The information of the respective area is displayed in block form on the display unit so that the operator can readily construct a process data flow by operating the input device while watching the display unit. The programming equipment reads out the area information from the areas in a predetermined sequence, and selects and interconnects the unit programs to construct the program corresponding to the process data flow.
