A polished bore assembly is located above the packer and is pushed down after the liner hanger is set to slide over a metal to metal seal on the packer body. A surface string is then tied into the polished bore with another metal to metal seal against the polished bore. The liner string has just metal to metal seals going up to the surface for well pressure containment. Elastomer seals to the polished bore are eliminated. Placement of the polished bore above the packer body allows for a larger diameter polished bore so as to minimize restriction to future production flow. The running tool has a ball seat that accepts a ball for pressuring up which results in movement of a mandrel with a magnet mounted to it past a valve triggered by the magnetic field. Potential energy is released to set the liner hanger. Further mandrel movement then releases the running tool once the liner is supported by the hanger. After a cement job that starts with confirmation of release of the running tool, the same magnet is moved past another valve adjacent the liner top packer. Another valve is triggered open to release potential energy and move parts that set the packer. Landing the second pump down plug on the now extended dogs allows a net pressure to be applied to an upper piston which shifts a sleeve to release the support for the second wiper plug. At that point the swage will be at the necessary position on the ramp to adequately expand the inner tubular for a proper supporting relation to the outer tubular. If the inside diameter of the outer tubular is at the high end of the tolerance allowed by API specifications, the diameter of the swage is increased to compensate. It features an inflatable structure that allows it to ride inside tubulars that change or gradually vary in inside diameter. In a preferred embodiment the bladder is actuated by fluid displaced by a biased piston. The piston is capable of moving in opposite directions to allow original insertion into a launcher and subsequent bladder expansion. A piston assembly bolts onto the mandrel in a sealable manner to actuate a mechanical lock. Upon release of the lock, a plurality of springs actuate a sleeve which is in turn attached to the slips to move them relative to their slip seats. The slip seats are preferably mounted to the mandrel without welding and have longitudinal spaces for mud or cement flow therebetween. Load is distributed from each slip through its slip seat into the mandrel without interaction from an adjacent slip or slip seat. A rupture disk ensures that a predetermined pressure is built up before the piston can actuate to defeat the lock. The lock can come in a variety of configurations. The movements leading to the release of the individual plugs are regulated by virtue of displacement of oil through at least one orifice. The biased retainers holding the plugs within the tools are released upon a predetermined movement of the plugs beyond the lower end of the tool. If the retaining mechanism for the plug does not automatically release upon sufficient extension of the wiper plug from the tool, a pressure assist can be used to launch any given plug. Patent number: 5813458Abstract: A dog sub is provided for use in an assembly for running liners with a weight-set packer. The dog sub allows rotation of the work string in an effort to set down weight on the dogs. The dogs are allowed to move radially outwardly by a pick-up force from the surface whereupon a set-down force, the dogs engage the setting sleeve on the weight-set packer. The dog sub is provided with a shear pin or other mechanism that breaks at about the requisite set force necessary to set the weight-set packer. When the assembly is retrieved to the surface, the breakage of the shear mechanism within the dog sub indicates to the surface personnel that an appropriate amount of set-down force has been applied to the weight-set packer below. Patent number: 5794694Abstract: A running tool particularly useful for running liners on coiled tubing is disclosed. A torque-transmitting outer sleeve is employed which initially traps the collets. The collets are engaged to the liner by relative mechanical movement and thereafter lock in a secured position to the liner, regardless of whether the liner is placed in tension or compression by the running tool. Release is accomplished by letting down weight on the running tool, coupled with hydraulic pressure to shear a pin securing the collet mechanism. Upon such a hydraulic release with the pin sheared, the outer torque sleeve shifts downwardly to prevent relatching. Torque is transmitted through the outer torque sleeved and not through the latching collets. A snap ring can optionally be inserted to further ensure that the tool will not relatch after release.
