  • Patent number: 8492366
Abstract: The solubility in solvent media, notably alcoholic media, of the beta-hydroxy acids (“BHAs”), notably the chemical skin peeling agent salicylic acid, is markedly enhanced by solubilizing same in the presence of at least one alpha-hydroxy acid (“AHA”); higher potency, more concentrated BHA skin peel products are thus formulated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 26, 2003
Date of Patent: July 23, 2013
    Assignee: Societe L'Oreal S.A.
Inventors: Marc Cornell, Hani Fares, Sidney Peter Foltis, Isabelle Hansenne
  • Patent number: 8158136
Abstract: Disclosed are cosmetic compositions containing water, at least one non-polar and/or polar oil, and an emulsification system comprising a polyoxyethylene oxide C12-C24 fatty acid ester; a sucrose fatty acid ester of vegetable origin, and a glyceryl and/or sorbitan C12-C24 fatty acid ester, and methods of making and using the compositions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 18, 2004
Date of Patent: April 17, 2012
    Assignee: L'Oréal
Inventors: Hani Fares, Rita Marie Grosso, Sidney Peter Foltis, Isabelle Hansenne
  • Publication number: 20120015016
Abstract: The present application relates to a UV protecting composition containing: (a) at least one organic UV sunscreen active; (b) at least one semi-crystalline polymer which is solid at ambient temperature and has a melting point of less than about 8O0 C; (c) hollow latex particles; and (d) at least one additional ingredient chosen from: i) a UV light absorbing compound having an SPF of less than 2, and ii) an SPF booster capable of reflecting UV light, different from hollow latex particles, wherein the hollow latex particles are employed in an amount equal to, or greater than, the amount of the at least one organic UV sunscreen active present in the composition. The invention also relates processes for protecting cellular targets from UV rays and free radical-induced damage by topically applying a UV protecting composition onto a keratinous substance, such as skin, and processes for making such compositions.
