  • Publication number: 20060286260
Abstract: A rapidly dispersible, non-gelling, non-gritty low-viscosity producing powder having use as a laxative and fiber supplement essentially containing non-digestible maltodextrin agglomerated with natural gums is disclosed. Non-digestible maltodextrins containing 30-40% hydro-alcohol precipitable fiber content are agglomerated in a fluid bed agglomerator, utilizing a solution of gums like guar and acacia having greater than 70% hydro-alcohol precipitable fiber content. These fiber agglomerates when added to water or liquid beverages disperse within few seconds without needing any mechanical stirring. Fiber powder agglomerates produced utilizing the current invention dispersed within seconds without forming any lumps in soft foods like yogurt, soft ice cream, pudding, thick soups, sauce, and fruit puree. Agglomerated powders enriched a variety of soft foods and beverages with high doses of fiber, without significantly altering the taste or texture.

  • Patent number: 6120779
Abstract: Novel skin care, hair care, nail care, lip care and related external formulations based on partial and complete choline salts of mono, di, tri and polyvalent carboxylic acids of food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical acids are described. These salts have better moisturizing and treating properties compared to the original acids. They tend to form highly elegant cosmetic treatment products when incorporated into lotions, creams, gels, liquids, bars, sticks, sprays and foam products. The mono choline salts of di and polyvalent carboxylic acids are also described in the invention. These mono choline salts tend to retain or enhance the biological properties of the parent molecule with enhanced solubility and bio-availability. These mono choline salts can be formulated as simple solutions and lotions eliminating need of complicated solubilizing systems. The partial and mono choline salts tend to reduce irritation, burning and stinging sensation common to these carboxylic acids.

  • Patent number: 5989535
Abstract: Bioadhesive/mucoadhesive composition in a suspension or emulsion form that delivers drugs to the target tissue in a sustained manner is formulated. A composition, method of manufacture and its application in treatment of mammalian tissue are disclosed. The composition includes a bioadhesive/mucoadhesive polymer in an emulsion or suspension form along with a treating agent. The treating agent could be as simple as water as in the case of mucoadhesive moisturizing agent. The bioadhesive/mucoadhesive polymer is a water dispersible high molecular weight crosslinked polyacrylic acid copolymer with free carboxylic acid groups further crosslinked with a combination mono, di and polyvalent metal ions, cationic polymers and surfactants. Type of metal ion and their concentration can be adjusted to get the desired bio/mucoadhesive properties along with several physical properties that are important to the formulation of dosage forms.
