  • Patent number: 10461555
Abstract: A wired connection, such as USB-C, for charging a sink from a source, has a configuration channel and a power transmission channel. The presence of data on the configuration channel is used to determine that a cable has been disconnected from the power source. This charging system contains a capacitive power converter and a controller for controlling the capacitive power converter. There is also a configuration channel detector, which is arranged to detect the status of the configuration channel and to provide this status to the controller, so that the system can determine that the source has been detached from the bus when no configuration channel data is present.

  • Publication number: 20080111576
Abstract: A programmable after-package, on-chip reference voltage trim circuit for an integrated circuit having a plurality of programmable trim cells generating a programmed sequence. A converter is provided to convert the bit sequence into a trim current. The trim current is added to an initial value of a reference voltage to be trimmed, as generated by the integrated circuit. Once the correct value of the trim current is determined, isolation circuitry is programmed to isolate the trim circuitry from the remainder of the IC, thereby freeing the logic and package pins associated with the IC for use by users of the IC. The preferred trim circuitry includes fuses which are blown in accordance with a bit value supplied to the trim cell to permanently fix a trim current value, once a best fit value is determined.

  • Publication number: 20080001547
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that provide an efficient and cost-effective LED driver for controlling strings of LEDs. Embodiments described include an LED driver that comprises an adaptive boost converter and current source that cooperate to provide a desired light output from energized LEDs. Systems and methods are also described that modulate the excitation of the LEDs using a pulsed signal to obtain brightness control. Techniques are described for controlling the operation of individual LEDs in a string of LEDs such that a desired level of light output can be achieved. Embodiments are described in which multicolored LEDs can be included in strings of LEDs and excitation of the individual LEDs can be controlled to obtained a desired color of output.

  • Patent number: 7106566
Abstract: An integrated circuit (IC) has logic and timing circuits that are coupled to discrete circuitry to provide protection and indications whenever an AC adapter that is faulty or has improper voltage levels or polarity are plugged into a system. In particular, the IC device provides over-voltage, under-voltage, and reversed-polarity protections to an electronic system to keep the electronic system from being damaged by an alternating current (AC) adapter having an improper voltage range or voltage polarity. It also provides a protection that prevents an adapter from powering a host system that has a short-circuit fault.

  • Publication number: 20050243022
Abstract: A LED driver is connectible to several series connected RGB LEDs which connect in series with a current generator. A plurality of LED switches are respectively connectible across one RGB LED. Each LED switch, operating in response to a binary signal is either open to permit electrical current to flow through the RGB LED, or closed to shunt current around that RGB LED. By varying respective duty cycles of the binary signals the LED driver is adapted for controlling operation of the combined RGB LEDs so they emit differing colors of light. An adaptive boost converter LED driver continuously adjusts voltage applied across the series connected RGB LEDs to be only that required for operating those LEDs through which open LED switches permit current to flow.
