  • Patent number: 6167439
Abstract: A data processing system is coupled to a facsimile device which receives and transmits facsimile images between the data processing system and a telephone line. The data processing system includes the capability to receive a facsimile image, interpret certain images as specified commands for the data processor, and to retrieve, manipulate and transmit data in response to the specified commands.

  • Patent number: 6115043
Abstract: A data processing system provides a folder icon for holding representations of sheets of information in user desired order. The folder has a closed position in which a user generated label is viewable. The label is designed through a processor window activated through a tab portion of the closed folder icon. The folder also has an open position for viewing the sheets held in the folder. The folder is changed between its open and closed positions by activation of a main body portion of the closed icon and the tab portion of the open folder icon. The open folder icon provides addition or removal of representations of sheets of information from and to an area outside of the folder in a screen view.

  • Patent number: 5680636
Abstract: A data processing system is programmed to display an annotatable bit map image of a text document, a spreadsheet and the like. Annotations are superimposed on a displayed, annotatable image, under control of an annotation program, in response to an input device, such as a mouse, keyboard or stylus (or pen) and electrical writing tablet. An annotatable bit map image and, any annotation superimposed thereon during an annotation session, are reduced in size to a miniature size stamp image in response to a selection input received by the processor from an input device. The stamp image is of a size which is recognizable to a user due to its resemblance to the large size annotatable image of a document and annotations thereto, if any. In turn, an annotatable bit map image, whether annotated or not, is expandable to the larger annotatable image in response to selection inputs supplied to the programmed processor from an input device.

  • Patent number: 5625833
Abstract: A data processing system provides annotation of a document with annotations inputted through an electronic tablet, a keyboard and an audio assembly. The annotations are entered in a modeless operation of the three input streams. Input by the tablet utilizes a two ended pen. One end of the pen is used for writing annotations to be added to a document and the second end of the pen is used for erasing the added written annotations. Files record the annotations made to the document in a manner which allows a time sequenced playback of the annotations including handwritten, typed and voiced annotations. A state machine of various procedures and controllers which call the procedures is used for processing the annotations as they are made, for replaying the annotations at a subsequent desired time, and for printing the annotations.

  • Patent number: 5060135
Abstract: A data processing system provides a desk view which serves as a graphical user interface to the system. The desk view displays detailed miniaturized images of all documents possessed by the user. The compressed document images are user stackable and are automatically stacked when the images overlap by a predefined amount. The predefined amount is user settable. The desk view also displays icons of operations for mailing, stapling, copying and printing of documents. User activation of these operations occurs upon the removal of a stylus end from a surface after the electronic stylus has positioned a document image and icon relative to each other. Some operations include a screen view enabling user establishment of parametes of the operation after activation. Some icons are displayed with automatic uncovering when a stamp is positioned over it.
