Abstract: Color video display apparatus with built-in color decompression includes, in one embodiment, a first holding buffer for storing compressed video data representative of a color video image. A decompression means decompresses the stored image data into a frame buffer. A video monitor provides for displaying a representation of the color video image from the frame buffer.

Abstract: The color image scanner includes built-in color compression capabilities to reduce scan time. The improved color scanner scans a color image on a document to provide color image data having a bandwidth of approximately 4-5 megabytes per second. The color image scanner stores the digital color image data on a line by line basis and shifts the stored data into a transmit line circuit. The scanner further includes compression means for compressing the image data at a ratio of approximately 10:1 which is suitable for input to a personal computer for further processing.

Abstract: Transforms such as the DCT are useful for image compression. One close relative of the DCT is preferred for its arithmetic simplicity. A method is described whereby the image compression is done with no multiplications. Other enhancements are made to improve image quality.
