Patent number: 9258797Abstract: A local positioning system uses a power delivery network throughout a facility to easily deploy inexpensive electromagnetic receivers for capturing location fingerprints from the transmission of wireless devices. These captured fingerprints are then compared with a database of similar fingerprints compiled from a facility surveying process. Location of the wireless device is inferred from the known location corresponding to that survey-derived fingerprint that is most highly correlated with the fingerprint derived from the wireless device. The known location may then be used to provide a logical mapping of the wireless device within facility floor plans or the like.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2014Date of Patent: February 9, 2016Assignee: TEMEDA, LLCInventors: Stewart A. Skomra, Julian Durand

Patent number: 8595302Abstract: A system and method for mediating the routing of asynchronous messages includes routing the asynchronous message to a first recipient, determining whether the first recipient opened the asynchronous message, and re-routing the asynchronous message to a second recipient who is qualified to receive and respond to the message if the first recipient fails to open the message (i.e., read, listen, display, act upon the message). In an embodiment, the message is re-routed to the second recipient if the first recipient fails to open the message within a deadline automatically imposed by the system when the message is of a certain type. In an embodiment, a mediator monitors if any recipient accepts responsibility for the asynchronous message and informs the other recipients that the asynchronous message may be deleted from their message queues.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2009Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Govindarajan Krishnamurthi, Stewart A. Publication number: 20070067373Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to enable the development, deployment and update of composite applications on mobile devices. In one embodiment, a method processor in a mobile device uses a workflow engine to load modules for execution according to a workflow that specifies the execution flow directions based on the outcomes of the modules. Detached object managers can be used to manage locally data that are checked out from data sources. A object manager can maintain multiple versions of the data locally, receive changes, submit changes, and/or detect conflicts. Conflicts can be resolved over time. Using a check-out check-in model, different devices can work on the same data without having to synchronize with a server sequentially. Data and workflow can be packaged together for transmission over a sometime connected network (e.g., via email) such that a method processor does not have to wait for response if the network connection is not available.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2006Publication date: March 22, 2007Inventors: Steven Higgins, James Collins, Peter Clare, Stewart Skomra

Publication number: 20070011334Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to enable the development, deployment and update of composite applications on mobile devices. In one embodiment, a method processor in a mobile device may include a workflow engine and a cache manager which looks ahead of the current execution of a workflow to preload modules. The method processor may present modal user interfaces in a non-modal way to eliminate flicker, and use a logger to stamp the workflow related data with real time measurements, such as time, location, and vehicle bus information. The logger may capture screen images and global data of the workflow during the execution. The log data stream may be collected and sent from the mobile device in real time, or in a batch mode, for monitoring, debugging, diagnosing or tuning the execution of a workflow, for providing hot update, help and guidance against deviation during the execution, and for other features.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2006Publication date: January 11, 2007Inventors: Steven Higgins, Jim Collins, Peter Clare, Stewart Skomra

Publication number: 20050076198Abstract: A method of providing a digital certificate authenticating the identity of a user of an endpoint device and over an open network is provided. The method comprises establishing a secure connection with the endpoint device. A digital certificate request is received from the endpoint device over the secure connection. The digital certificate request comprises an indication of the identity of the user of the endpoint device and a public encryption key. A validation parameter associated with the user is obtained from a trusted database. Instructions to provide verification data are sent to the endpoint device and verification data is received back from the endpoint device and validated. A signed digital certificate is provided to the endpoint device over the secure connection only if the verification data correlates to the validation parameter.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2004Publication date: April 7, 2005Applicant: Apacheta CorporationInventors: Stewart Skomra, Frank Ciotti

Publication number: 20030078037Abstract: Subscriber units and base stations of telecommunication systems are equipped with RF to IF (EXA) circuit boards which provide complete flexibility for radio communication. The boards may communicate on any air interface standard (CDMA, TDMA, Bluetooth, 3G cellular, etc.) at any frequency or band of frequencies. Separate, independent forward and reverse channels may be assignment, each having its own air interface and frequency band. When a call is initiated, a set of optimum forward and reverse channels are assigned, taking into account relevant factors such as traffic, subscriber requirements for high speed data, etc., so that the channel assignment is tailored to the current communication needs. Channel assignment is updated as needs change, as other channels become available and at handoff. In a business model, air time on multiple telecommunication systems is sold to subscribers who can use this technology to roam widely.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2002Publication date: April 24, 2003Inventors: David T. Auckland, Stewart A. Skomra, Lee Stein, David Farber
