    Abstract: An improved anode primarily for use in a metal/air or metal/oxygen cell is described. The anode comprises a porous metal body wrapped in first and second layers of different and distinct materials, the first layer being hydrophilic and gas-impermeable, when in contact with an aqueous electrolyte such as the cellulosic membranes; and the second layer, preferably in bag form, being gas-permeable, hydrophilic, dimensionally stable, and heat sealable such as co-polymers of vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile. Superior cell performance is obtained.
